After a week of trying to trade disgruntled quarterback Josh Freeman unsuccessfully, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have cut ties with the 25-year old quarterback.
Multiple reports are confirming the move now and the team is set to still be responsible for the remainder of his contract which is set to be just over $6 million. After the benching and all the news that has followed it — confidentiality breached, his fines, etc. — this is the best move for both sides.
BREAKING: GM Mark Dominik confirmed today that Freeman is being released.

Freeman’s camp applied great pressure on the Bucs in recent weeks to accommodate his release. Never seen a barrage of leaks to this degree

Freeman holds franchise records for most touchdown passes (27) and most passing yards (4,065), which were set last season under the same head coach that benched and replaced him.
