In a bit of a surprise the Jacksonville Jaguars plan to release veteran safety Dwight Lowery once he passes a team physical according to a report by Mark Long of the Associated Press. While it seemed like Lowery's days as a Jaguars player were all but over when he was placed on injured reserve on Thursday it's now just a matter of time before he's released. It's a nice move on the part of the Jaguars front office letting Lowery sign with another team once he's cleared medically. The team clearly has liked what they've seen from rookie safety Josh Evans and would prefer him to play out the rest of the season and grow with fellow rookie Johnathan Cyprien. Lowery's contract for the 2013 season is guaranteed meaning no matter what he signs for after he's released he still gets his full $3.1 million salary for the year. The move to release Lowery makes me wonder if he was another player the team might have tried to actively shop had he not gotten injured.

Largest point spreads in NFL history

The Jacksonville Jaguars are 28-point underdogs against the Denver Broncos, the biggest in NFL history. Here's a list of the league's largest point spreads.

Jaguars place Dwight Lowery, Luke Joeckel on IR

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed three players, including safety Dwight Lowery and offensive tackle Luke Joeckel, on injured reserve. Shorts and Blackmon both see plenty of looks in the latter's return (WR Targets Week 5)

Week 5 Wide Receiver and Tight End Targets The return of Justin Blackmon didn’t affect Cecil Shorts‘ targets (11… 7 in second half, so he saw more with Henne behind center relative to 4 second half targets for Blackmon) or Sanders’ snap count (he played in 53 of 60) but there was only one target for Ace. It should be noted that while Shorts’ catch rate leaves something...

Cecil Shorts Not Practicing On Thursday, Downgraded

Owners of Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts have been very accustomed to checking practice reports during the season. Shorts has been dealing with a groin injury the past couple of weeks but has continued to play through it. Thus far, he has played pretty well despite the groin and his terrible team. Much of it has come in junk-time, but for fantasy, that is more than ok.  After...

Peyton Manning Pays Jaguars Rare Compliment, Calls Them ‘Good Football Team’

The Jaguars’ miserable season has been called all sorts of things, but “good” isn’t usually one of them. Stumbling to an 0-5 start on the season, Jacksonville hasn’t just lost, they’ve lost by epic proportions. The Jaguars have fallen by double-digits in all of their games, and they look to be in for an even ruder awakening when they travel to Denver this weekend, with...

Brunell gives Jaguars hope in Denver

So you're betting that Jacksonville has absolutely no hope against Denver on Sunday? Mark Brunell has something to say about that. Before you call to have him Baker Acted, it should be noted that Brunell wasn't talking about Jacksonville actually beating the Broncos. He thinks the 28-point spread is wacko. "That's ridiculous," he said. Brunell can't help...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The NFL will play three regular-season games at London's Wembley Stadium next year, hosted by the Jaguars, Falcons and Raiders. The league announced Tuesday at its fall meetings that it was expanding its international series. It will be the most games the league has played abroad in one year. This season, Minnesota beat Pittsburgh 34-27 in September, and Jacksonville...

Jacksonville Jaguars: Why The NFL Should Embrace Relegation

I’m no soccer snob but the single greatest aspect of club level “football” is relegation and promotion. It is a method popular in sports leagues outside of North America. The purpose is to demote the worst teams in the top league to a lower one while simultaneously promoting the best teams from the lower league to the top.Since there’s no minor league equivalent to the NFL—sorry...

Peyton Manning says The Jaguars Are a Good NFL Football Team

You can never afford to take you eye off an opponent in the NFL. Yes the Jags may stink so bad  that people actually think Tim Tebow can save them, but they are still an NFL team. Peyton seems to have his focus in the right place with these comments:  We’re playing a good NFL football team,” Manning told reporters on Wednesday, via Pro Football Talk. “I don’t look at...

Jacksonville Jaguars: 2013 Week 6 NFL Power Rankings (#32)

Last week: 32 (+0) Record: 0-5 The Jaguars essentially waved the wave flag on this season and on Blaine Gabbert when they traded Eugene Monroe to the Ravens. Their goal this season was to evaluate Blaine Gabbert with a better offensive line, after drafting Luke Joeckel 2nd overall. However, trading Monroe just to get something for him before he became a free agent this off-season...
