Since his injury last December against the Kansas City Chiefs, many wondered if Jim Leonhard would have any sort of future with the New York Jets. Yesterday, the Jets made that decision via the report that they will not re-sign the 29-year-old safety. After a big year for Gang Green when he arrived from the Baltimore Ravens with head coach Rex Ryan and linebacker Bart Scott in 2009, Leonhard spent the final quarters of the 2010 and 2011 seasons on injured reserve.  Both injuries, a fractured tibia and a torn patellar tendon, are tough for a safety to fully recover from, especially in consecutive seasons.  Many fans sensed Jim Leonhard would not return because of his injuries.  Now the big question is whether or not he will have much more of an NFL career. In his time wearing green and white, Leonhard was recognized as the quarterback of the defense.  While he was injured, the Jets saw their fair share of adversities against other teams.  Without Leonhard in the past two season...

On December 6 2010, the New York Jets were beaten to within an inch of their football lives by the Patriots on Monday Night Football 45-3. The reason why the Jets needed to get even in the first place was credited to the sudden loss of safety Jim Leonhard who fractured his right tibia the Friday before the Monday night game. Rex Ryan talks about weight loss

Normally talkative New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is now ready to chat about his weight-loss surgery. Once weighing 348 pounds, Ryan wanted to wait until he lost at least 100 of that. More than two years after having the Lap-Band procedure, Ryan is down to about 243 pounds. Ryan said Thursday the device forces him to practice portion control. He still eats Mexican food, but where...

Meet the new, slimmer version of Rex Ryan again

Rex Ryan— the larger than life and bigger than an offensive tackle NFL personality— taped a television talk show Thursday and showed off the new slimmer version of himself. After dropping over 100 pounds and sporting a new hairstyle, the New York Jets head coach taped an interview with CBS-NY's "The Couch" (to be broadcast Friday) and looked like he stepped off...

Jets coach Rex Ryan made a national cable television appearance this morning on Fox & Friends via NewYorkJets.com. “I’m down 105 pounds,” Ryan told hosts Gretchen Carlson and Steve Doocy. Jim Leonhard, New York Jets will go separate ways

The New York Jets have decided not to re-sign safety Jim Leonhard (Credit: AP Photo/Kathy Willens) Citing a source, The New York Post is reporting that the New York Jets will not re-sign safety Jim Leonhard. Last season, Leonhard suffered a torn patellar tendon in his right knee in December, which prematurely ended his season in the final year of his contract. The Jets signed free...

Jets Won't Re-Sign Veteran FS Jim Leonhard

When Rex Ryan arrived with the Jets in 2009 he brought safety Jim Leonhard with him from Baltimore to be the quarterback of the defense. Now, Ryan has decided to move on without him. The Jets have ruled out re-signing the popular Leonard at the current time, a source confirmed. There is a slim chance the team would sign him down the road if they suffer injuries at the safety position...

The Daily Heckle: Rex Ryan Uses Weight Loss To Give To The Less Fortunate

Rex Ryan tips scales at 242 -- less than Tebow

You'll be seeing a lot less of Rex Ryan this season. The Jets' coach hasn't been one to shy away from blabbering for the microphone, but he's down in the blubber department. Ryan, like his brother and Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, underwent lap-band surgery two years ago. He said Thursday he's ready to enter a new weight class, having dropped a total...

Jets reportedly won’t re-sign Jim Leonhard

Getty Images According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, Jets head coach doesn’t plan on re-signing safety Jim Leonhard. With the additions of LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell this offseason, it wouldn’t make sense for the Jets to bring Leonhard back, unless someone suffers a serious injury. “I’m a free agent right now, hopefully in the next few weeks I get some workouts...

Why Big Blue Will Always Be Big Brother: A Comparison of New York Style.

The Giants and Jets continue to battle for supremacy, although on the field it's been a one sided affair. You wouldn’t think that an NFC East team and an AFC East team would have reason to hate one another.  This is the NFL.  Really, the teams you need to hate are the ones who reside within your division.  This is why I have forever despised the Philadelphia Eagles and the...

SteelDad’s Rants and Slants Version 3

Kicking Off There are so many ways I could go with this story about the Cowboys’ Dez Bryant attacking his mother, but I’ll choose this one; NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been anything but consistent when handing out fines and suspensions, but he needs to get this one right or risk losing the ounce of respect fans around the league still have for him. If Goodell is going...

Things That Pissed Me Off Last Week In The World Of Sports

I just don’t understand how anybody in the world – besides the competitors – gets fired up for the Olympics. I mean, who cares? Who really cares if we have the best gymnasts in the world, or the best skiers or whatever? If anything, I think everyone who competes in the Olympics is really weird, and it makes me uncomfortable. They get up at like 4 a.m. every day and train. They...
