Earlier we shared a report with you that claimed Tim Tebow was given a choice between the Jets and the Jaguars when the Broncos decided to trade him. When Denver landed Manning, there was some speculation that Tebow would want to be traded to the Jaguars so he could return home to Jacksonville. That may have been the case initially, but according to Adam Schefter Tebow ended up picking the Jets because he felt they were more enthusiastic about having him. On Thursday, John Elway confirmed that Tebow did indeed choose the Jets and was granted his wish, even though the Jaguars offered slightly more.

“We did (give Tebow a choice),” Elway said during an interview with 102.3 ESPN Radio in Denver. “There was more from Jacksonville but I think that, you know, we looked at it and it was close enough. We were in contact with Tim throughout the day and talked to him and he knew what was going on the whole time. The reports that he was not involved are not accurate.”

Tebow contributed to those inaccurate reports that Elway is referring to, as he denied being given a choice during a conference call on Wednesday and said the Broncos held all the power in the trade discussions.

The Broncos wouldn’t have left a lot on the table simply to be kind to Tebow, so the offers were probably extremely similar. The Jets owners and coaches reportedly were all in on Tebow, whereas it is believed Jacksonville owner Shahid Khan wanted Tebow but GM Gene Smith and head coach Mike Mularkey were not excited about it.

Then, there’s also the possibility that Tebow wanted the opportunity to spread his faith on one of the world’s biggest stages in New York. Tim has openly admitted that his religious faith is more important than football, so it’s certainly worth noting.
