Kordell Stewart says NIL valuation would've been about $10 million in 1994

Kordell Stewart has etched his name as one of the best in Colorado history. 'Slash' was electrifying as a true dual-threat QB and many say he was well before his time. With today's era of college football players capitalizing on NIL deals, there's a lot of speculation as to what the market value would be for some of the greats of the past.

Stewart was recently asked about valuation and what he would be worth during his career at CU. He gave a detailed answer about the 1994 season, in which his late teammate Rashaan Salaam became the school's only Heisman winner. There was also a legendary ending at the Big House during that year, with Stewart lofting a pass 75 yards for a game-winning touchdown to upset Michigan.

"Every time something good happens, NIL money goes up. So, in that moment, (The Miracle at Michigan) I probably would've had my peak. I may have had about $6 million maybe at that time," Stewart explained. "I might have flattened out until we played Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. So, I probably could've walked away with a potential number like eight figures. I think I would've gotten like $10 million."

That figure would be doubled to $20 million due to inflation in today's market. It would also make Stewart college football's top NIL earner, like Colorado's Shedeur Sanders is currently. Salaam would also be up there on the list after putting up a 2,000-yard season.

Stewart accounted for 2,710 total yards and 17 total touchdowns during his final year in Boulder. He was a second-round selection in the 1995 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. 'Slash' went on to an 11-year NFL career with 115 total touchdowns. He appeared in Super Bowl XXX with the Steelers, which ended in a loss to Deion Sanders and the Dallas Cowboys. The two eventually ended up as teammates with the Baltimore Ravens at the end of their respective careers.
