FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots are pretty well set at the running back position going forward. If there were any doubts, Stevan Ridley silenced them with a 1,200-yard season in 2012. But even that didn’t keep the Patriots from adding some depth at running back.
While looking for a landing spot for wavering return specialist Jeff Demps, the Patriots came across an opportunity to acquire a talented veteran running back. So, they sent Demps and seventh-round pick to the Buccaneers and in turn landed LeGarrette Blount.
For Bill Belichick, the trade wasn’t personal about Demps’ off-field endeavors in track. Instead, as always, it was all about getting value.
“Good value,” Belichick said of acquiring Blount. “If we can get a good football player, and the price is right. If it’s a good player at a right price, and it’s affordable. … We just felt the overall trade was good for our football team.”
Blount offers the Patriots just that, too: Value.

The New England Patriots have acquired the services of former waiver wire star, LeGarrette Blount from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for RB Jeff Demps and a seventh round pick.
This is one of those head scratching moves that only Bill Belichick can deliver. Why go after a guy like Blount who seemed to have no trade value what-so-ever? I guess we’ll find out when camp opens...
I can't even believe the news. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded troubled cornerback Aqib Talib to the New England Patriots at the NFL trade deadline last season. The two teams consummated another deal on Saturday as the Buccaneers shipped RB LeGarrette Blount to the Patriots in exchange for Jeff Demps and a seventh round selection. The question has to be what value is Blount to the Patriots?
Blount became expendable...
The Patriots have acquired running back LeGarrette Blount from the Buccaneers.Fantasy Spin:And all they had to give up was practice squad running back Jeff Demps and a seventh-round pick. It's a nice pickup for the Pats as Blount should be the team's preferred goal line back next season. He might also get some third down looks now that third-down specialist Danny Woodhead...
The Buccaneers had running back LeGarrette Blount on the trade block for quite a while. Entering the draft, talk around the league and several media circles of a potential Blount trade started to pick back up. During the final day of the draft, Tampa Bay sent Blount to New England. Blount saw his role diminish greatly after the Bucs drafted running back Doug Martin in the first...

Since Patriots second year running back Jeff Demps let slip on a radio interview that his priority was his track & field career, not football, it's been rumored that Demps was not far away from being released or traded.
