Rashard Mendenhall is facing the end of a 5-year $9.5 million contract for 2012 and a torn ACL.  His 2011 season ended in the final season game against the Cleveland Browns.  General Manager Kevin Colbert admitted that it may take Mendenhall a while to get healthy. “Potentially Rashard Mendenhall might not be ready for camp,” said Colbert. “In my mind, I never feel good about an ACL until a year. I am not a doctor but that’s just my mindset. If he gets back before then, to me it’s a bonus. Is he a potential candidate for the PUP List? Absolutely.” Mendenhall, questioned earlier Read more [...]

Roethlisberger: Look The Part To Play The Part

By Jeremy Hritz Pittsburgh Steelers fans across the world are grateful for the last eight seasons of football that Ben Roethlisberger has made possible. From his unprecedented winning streak during his rookie season, to three Super Bowl starts, Big Ben is one of the primary reasons that the Steelers are always in the running for a Lombardi come playoff time. There is no denying...

Cost of first round tender and franchising Mike Wallace

Starting on Monday, February 20th, NFL teams can begin using their Franchise Tag if they choose. It’s not required that a player be tagged on this date, it’s simply the earliest they can use it. There will be some teams that jump on this right away I’m sure. It’s very unlikely the Steelers will tag Mike Wallace immediately but they have about 3 weeks yet until the March 13th...

The answer to the Steelers backfield is already on the roster

I suppose I’m a lone wolf on this one, at least when it comes to the main stream media and social networking world. It seems that everyone is trying to tell me that Isaac Redman isn’t the long term answer at running back for the Steelers. I keep seeing on twitter and reading on the web how so many, including some of the “experts”, say the Steelers need to draft another running...

Steelers owner Rooney addresses criticism surrounding coaching staff

Owner Art Rooney II reserves the right to continue his family tradition of running the Steelers with a "hands-on" approach.

Recent media interviews by Steelers officials & players

The Steelers have been fairly quiet since the season ended, in terms of media interviews and news announcements. That all began to change within the last week as Steelers GM Kevin Colbert has been making the rounds with the local Pittsburgh media to talk about the offseason.  With so much speculation surrounding the hiring of Todd Haley, comments by Ben Roethlisberger, and the speculation...

Should Ravens try to acquire Steelers’ Wallace?

I was watching ESPN’s “SportsCenter” and “NFL Live” this afternoon and the topic was restricted free agent Mike Wallace of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers could have a tough time retaining the third-year wide receiver if they place a first-round restricted tender on him. Tim Hasselbeck suggested the Ravens could sign him away from Pittsburgh by offering the speedster...

Goodell, Dayton to meet in Minn. Capitol

Gov. Mark Dayton said Thursday that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers will come to Minnesota to meet with state lawmakers and urge progress on the struggling effort to build a new stadium for the Vikings. Dayton said he'd convene a Friday meeting in his office with Goodell, Art Rooney and the Legislature's four caucus leaders. Rooney...
