When the New York Giants drafted Jason Pierre-Paul in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, many were scratching their heads. After all, the Giants already had two of the more dominant pass-rushers in the NFL, and Pierre-Paul had only played a few years of organized football. He was a physical specimen, and extremely raw in terms of his football skills. JPP had a decent rookie season, but became the star of a defense in 2011 which helped propelled the team to their 2nd Super Bowl title in five years. 2012 was a different story for JPP. He struggled to fight through double-teams, and wasn’t making the plays all over the field like he did his previous two years in the league. The Giants and others expected big things from the defensive end, but he fell well below it. Teammate Osi Umenyiora argued at the start of the season that he had the potential to shatter former Giant Michael Strahan’s single-season sack record. But he actually fell short of his previous year’s sack total (16.5) by 10. Now the Giants, specifically GM Jerry Reese, is turning to Strahan to be the one to lead JPP to the next step [...]
