PLAYERS: Mike Goodson
TEAMS: New York Jets
The Jets gave Mike Goodson a nice chunk of change in March, and based on his past history with money, he may need it. New York signed Goodson to a three-year, $6.9 million contract with a $1 million signing bonus this offseason. That doesn’t look like a great investment after Goodson was arrested on drug and weapons charges last week. It turns out the Jets may have ignored some past issues when they signed the fifth-year running back, who has spent time with the Panthers and Raiders, according to some research by ESPN.com. Goodson has been sued for paternity and child support by three different women, with whom he has fathered at least six children. Goodson has also been sued for failure to pay a $56,465 bill at a jewelry store and for failing to make payments on a $49,000 Mercedes-Benz. The Jets declined ESPN.com’s request for comment, but said the team’s policy is to investigate every player.

Hayden Smith had a pile of obstacles to overcome in transitioning from rugby to American football when the New York Jets signed him last year. One of them seemed simple enough -- but it wasn't.“First of all it took me forever to actually figure out how to do the helmet up," the tight end project told NewYorkJets.com's Eric Allen. "I remember running around on the...

NFLPA to investigate Jay-Z signing Geno Smith

According to TMZ the NFL Players Association plans on investigating Jay-Z once again after landing Jets quarterback Geno Smith as his latest big-name client. Smith and Jay-Z took the photo above before Smith signed on with Roc Nation Sports.  It certainly looks like Jay-Z is in violation of the “runner rule,” which prohibits people who aren’t agents from recruiting clients...

NFLPA investigating Geno Smith recruitment to Roc Nation and Jay-Z’s involvement

Being drafted by the New York Jets in the second round of the NFL Draft last month was just the beginning for Geno Smith to become an attention grabber. He fired his agents shortly thereafter, and reports say it was over him not being the #1 overall pick as he was promised, a report that Smith denies. While Smith fights for the starting job with Mark Sanchez, he has gone ahead and...

Jets By The Numbers: Dawan Landry

Dawan Landry played four seasons of ACC football at Georgia Tech. Originally redshirted to play quarterback for the Yellow Jackets, Landry switched to safety. Over his college career, Landry had 250 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 7 interceptions, and 4 fumble recoveries. NFLPA to investigate Roc Nation's recruitment of Geno Smith

The NFL Players Association is taking a look into Jay-Z’s role in Geno Smith’s decision to choose Kim Miale and the rap star's ever expanding Roc Nation as his agency, according to NFL.com. Jay-Z's possible involvement in Smith’s decision could be a violation of the “runner rule” that doesn’t allow non-agents to help recruit athletes for agencies. Smith spent...

The Wins and Losses of 2013

Opinions vary if the Jets can be competitive this season, but most recognize that the team is in rebuild mode. I don’t see the team making the playoffs, but I do think we’ll see a lot of improvement from last year. I’m not talking about record-wise, but improvement via the young, developing players. John Idzik has done an excellent job, so far, with the draft and signing free...

Rob Ryan motivated after getting 'feelings hurt' by Cowboys

METAIRIE, La. (AP) -- Rob Ryan figures his firing in Dallas will only help him relate to a Saints defense humbled by a historically bad season. "I don't like getting fired," Ryan said Thursday during his first meeting with reporters since Sean Payton hired him in February to revamp New Orleans' last-ranked defense. "I know I got my feelings hurt and so did...

Jets History: 2001 Season

When discussing the most heartbreaking seasons in Jets’ history, 2001 doesn’t seem to be brought up very often.  Though other seasons have involved either more painful playoff defeats or regular season collapses, when taken as a whole, the 2001 season was truly painful. On January 28, 2001, the Jets named Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defensive backs coach Herman Edwards as their...

After Agents Complaints NFLPA Looking into Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports

Jay-Z has these agents shook and they are looking for any and every way to try to slow him down. First, it was saying he couldn’t be certified because he didn’t have a degree, so Jay hired a NFLPA certified agent and signed Geno Smith. Now, the agents are complaining about his relationship with CAA and so the NFLPA will look into that. The NFLPA has asked CAA Sports about its...
