Eagles backup quarterback Mike Kafka suffered a broken left hand in the Eagles 24-23 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kafka played through the injury during the game, but will now be sidelined as his left hand is heavily wrapped. Kafka throws with his right hand, so he is still participating in a limited role during practice. Today he threw during individual drills and 7 on 7, but sat out during the team session. He cannot take snaps with the wrap on his hand.
Kafka’s unfortunate injury has opened the door for rookie Nick Foles to step up. Foles played very well in the first preseason game tossing a touchdown to fellow rookie Damaris Johnson and another touchdown to Mardy Gilyard. The offense was inept under Vick and Kafka, but Foles’ rookie debut seemed to spark the team. Foles has a big arm and did not seem intimidated playing in his first NFL game. After his performance against the Steelers there were already whispers about him challenging Kafka for the backup r...

Nick Foles steps up to the 2s after Mike Kafka injury
Mike Kafka
Well, whaddya know. After being the talk of Thursday night’s preseason game against the Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Nick Foles is now in the #2 QB spot.
But it’s not due to any controversy at the position. It’s because Mike Kafka’s left (non- throwing) hand was stepped on and broken during the game. Kafka is expected to be out for 2-3 weeks...
Is Nick Foles the Philadelphia Eagles’ New Backup Quarterback?
Eric Hartline / US PRESSWIRE
If you’ve heard anything about the Philadelphia Eagles in the past 24 hours, it was probably about their current quarterback situation. Michael Vick’s injured thumb will not keep him from missing any practice time or preseason action, however, Mike Kafka, his backup, suffered a fracture on his non-throwing hand in the preseason opener against the...
Philadelphia Eagles Backup Quarterback Job in Question?
Mike Kafka’s roster spot with the Eagles could be in trouble after an abysmal performance against the Steelers
Prior to training camp, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback positions seemed set in stone. However after a highly uninspiring preseason opener from Mike Kafka, and unexpected fantastic play from Nick Foles and Trent Edwards, the backup position is becoming murky...
Nick Foles Impresses Eagles Fans in Debut
Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles QB impressed in his debut with the team. But can he be called the future after one quarter of pre-season play?
I’ll be the first to admit that watching the Eagles’ first team play in their first Pre-season game was as entertaining as watching paint dry. They looked pretty bad. Michael Vick was ineffective and the defense looked frighteningly like...
Eagles Backup QB Mike Kafka Breaks Hand, Out 2-3 Weeks
Eagles backup QB Mike Kafka broke his left (non-throwing) hand, and he'll be out 2-3 weeks, Eagles beat writer Sheil Kapadia of Birds247.com reported. Thats big news for a team whose primary quarterback, Michael Vick, has proven highly vulnerable to injury in his career, and it puts more of a spotlight on the Eagles No. 3 QB, rookie Nick Foles out of Arizona, especially considering...
Is Nick Foles the Eagles QB of the future?
I know it was only the Philadelphia Eagles first preseason game. I know nobody should take what happened in just one preseason game and think what the future may hold — especially when a team has a quarterback as electrifying as Michael Vick. But after seeing what rookie QB Nick Foles did on Thursday night against an extremely tough Pittsburgh Steelers defense, it’s hard...
Recent Depth Chart Changes For the Eagles a Cause for Concern?
Yong Kim/Philly.com Staff Photographer
There were a few temporary or possibly permanent depth chart moves by the Philadelphia Eagles at training camp over this past weekend.
A starting player was demoted to second string, a second-stringer may have been bumped to the third team and a third-stringer is now running with the twos.
Okay, first things first...
Though nobody knew it at...
Rookie Nick Foles Will Get Chance to Shine with Mike Kafka Sidelined
There is a popular quarterback on the sidelines for the Philadelphia Eagles, but his name is something other than Michael Vick. Rookie Nick Foles has made some waves after an outstanding performance in the preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

During the pre-season, I will be breaking down the games with a “highs and lows” section. This will show what players/units shined and which still need work before the season...
