ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported via Twitter today that Pittsburgh Steelers WR Mike Wallace has no intentions of signing the free agent tender placed on him, and also plans on sitting out off-season workouts.
While the report has not been confirmed by the Steelers, Schefter is usually right on the money with his information. The deadline for restricted free agents only nine days away, it is very likely that the Steelers front office will halt negotiations until Wallace signs the tender and reports. He needs one more season under his belt before he can become an unrestricted free agent.
The Steelers are not known to meeting demands of high priced guys, and since no other team is prepared to pay Wallace the outrageous, Larry Fitzgerald type money he wants, it is likely Wallace will report to training camp but miss the off-season activities. This could falter new offensive coordinator Todd Haley’s progress, however as long as Wallace shows up it’s not a huge deal.
