The Buccaneers were determined to give another loss to the New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees. Unfortunately for them, the Saints found holes in the Bucs defense throughout the first half that lead to a New Orleans win, 35-28.
Tampa Bay started fast with an interception by Ronde Barber off a deflection by Gerald McCoy. On the ensuing play, Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman found wide receiver Tiquan Underwood for a touchdown.  Running back Doug Martin would add a touchdown on the team’s second drive to put them up 14-0 over New Orleans.
After Drew Brees connected with Marques Colston to make it 14-7, Freeman would find Vincent Jackson who stretched out into the end zone for a touchdown. After a quick 21-7 lead at the top of the second quarter, things began unfolding for the Bucs defense.
New Orleans would score three touchdowns in the second quarter and lead at halftime by a score of 28-21.
The Buccaneers would march 66 yards to start the second half only to miss a field goals by Connor Barth. The Bucs would force the Saints into a punt on their first possession of the third quarter that pinned them inside the five yard line. Two plays later, a pass that could have been an incompletion was turned into a 95 catch and run by Vincent Jackson. Jackson was denied the touchdown when Saints’ defensive back Malcom Jenkins caught up with Jackson to bring him down at the New Orleans two yard line. The Bucs would be unable to punch it in after three consecutive handoffs to LeGarrette Blount were stuffed as well as a fourth down rollout attempt by Josh Freeman.
On the Saints’ ensuing drive, the Bucs had the Saints to a 51 yard field goal attempt on fourth down. But an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the Bucs field goal unit for trying to force New Orleans into a false start, gave Drew Brees and company new life. And with that, the Saints would score to make it a 35-21 game in the fourth quarter.
After the two teams exchanged punts, the Bucs would score after Josh Freeman found Dallas Clark in the back of the end zone to bring Tampa Bay to within one touchdown of tying the game.
But the rally fell short as an apparent last second touchdown catch by Mike Williams was negated for illegal touching after stepping out of bounds and coming back in. Williams and the Bucs were telling the refs he was pushed out but since Freeman scrambled out of the pocket, the push out became legal.
Josh Freeman would end the game 24/42 with 420 yards and three touchdowns. Vincent Jackson broke the Bucs team record for yards in a game with 216 receiving yards while scoring one touchdown.
The Buccaneers will travel to Minnesota on a short week as they face the Vikings on Thursday night.
