Several new mock drafts have been released over the last day or so, shedding more light on the potential direction for the Panthers next month. After the latest troubling news that elite guard Travelle Wharton may be retiring on top of Jordan Gross’ retirement, it looks like it will be increasingly important that Dave Gettleman shores up the line to protect Cam Newton, rather than the receiving corps.   Panthers.com has a relatively new name to the mix, tackle Morgan Moses from the University of Virginia. At 6’6″, 314 pounds, and with an arm length of 35 3/8,” Moses is an impressive physical specimen but is slow. He ran a 4.95-second 20-yard shuttle, well off the leader at 4.37 and was nowhere near the top time in the 3-cone, clocking in at 7.93, compared to a 7.30 leader.   Bottom Line: He seems a weird choice considering the many other options available at that point (The same mock draft still has Notre Dame tackle Zack Martin on the board) but Moses has deep experience on both sides of the line after switching from right to left tackle for his senior season.   In CBS’s latest mock draft, a name that’s been tossed around a lot more pops up: Alabama’s Cyrus Kouandijo.   One of the reasons this pick makes more sense is because of whom CBS has going before him. They picked the aforementioned Martin from Notre Dame to go to Miami and also eliminate many of the receiving options (Odell Beckham Jr., Brandin Cooks, Marqise Lee) should Carolina take a change of course and try to get a wideout.   Here, it comes down to whether or not the Panthers would rather get a guard or a tackle. We mentioned Xavier S’ua Filo as a guard to keep an eye on before and if he’s still available, Carolina might want to keep him in mind, especially with the latest news surrounding Travelle Wharton.   Bottom Line: guard or tackle? Kouandijo was a stud in college but didn’t have an outstanding combine and might be more of a risk than S’ua Filo who has impressed at both the guard and tackle positions.
