Somewhere in that house of thrills in the sky, Al Davis is smiling.  For short spurts the mystique of the Raiders was back.  His last draft pick was Terrelle Pryor and on Sunday he showed a lot of people why Mr. Davis wanted him.  Mr. Davis would be even more proud of his attitude.      Looking back in Oakland in 1979, You would have thought the sky was falling.  After their second straight 9-7 season, Raider fans were in an uproar.  Talk shows, newspapers and sportswriters wanted to know how the team with the best winning percentage in any sport for two decades could even come near being average.  Local sportswriters Lowell Cohn and Glenn Dickey were as giddy as teenage girls at the prom due to all of the anger.  Words like unacceptable and embarrassing were used often.  That was the Raider fan of yesteryear and it seems like a long time ago.  Just win baby.    The most telling thing for me that happened last Sunday, didn't occur during the game, but after it.  While being inte...

A New Era for the Oakland Raiders Run Defense?

The biggest weakness for the Oakland Raiders over the last dreadful decade has been their run defense. Reggie McKenzie hired Dennis Allen as the Raiders first defensive minded head coach since John Madden because of Allen’s hybrid defensive schemes. Last year’s Raiders defense was once again atrocious which is why the Raiders have brought in 9 new starters on defense. While...

State of the AFC West: Can the Oakland Raiders Deliver a Win in Their Home Opener?

Hello again Raider Nation. Week 2 is upon us and with it comes another interesting slate of AFC West matchups. Last week I went 3-1 picking AFC West games, losing foolishly by picking the Ravens to upset the Broncos. This week’s games are a little tougher to predict, but I’ll do my best. I keep checking my mailbox for the […]

Game Grades Week 1: Best, and Worst, vs Indianapolis

Despite leaving the Lucas Oil Stadium with a loss last Sunday, the Oakland Raiders surprised a lot of people with the way they played against the widely favorites Indianapolis Colts. The Silver & Black conceded a 14-point deficit early in the second quarter, but responded with 17 straight of their own led by the new starting quarterback, Terrelle Pryor. But […]

Charles Woodson Leaps Over A Really Big Human Being To Make This Tackle

Sebastian Janikowski denies that he roots against the A's

Unless their bullpen has anything to do with it, the A’s appear on track for a second consecutive year of October baseball. That’s good news for A’s fans. Not so much for Sebastian Janikowski, aka Grumpy McGrumperson. You see, Bud Selig isn’t the only one who’s hardly thrilled when the A’s make the playoffs. That’s because Janikowski allegedly hopes they never make...

Jacksonville Jaguars at Oakland Raiders: 2013 Week 2 NFL Pick

Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) at Oakland Raiders (0-1) One of the most powerful trends in betting is known as the six and six trend, meaning teams who finish with 6 wins or fewer are 25-69 ATS as favorites of 6 or more since 2002. There are two issues with this trend. One, it’s very rare (it only happened 7 times all last season, going 2-5 ATS). Two, it’s even rarer that a situation...

The Oakland Raiders' gameplan vs the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Raiders put up a great fight versus the Jacksonville Jaguars and the offense looked light years ahead of last year’s poorly run unit. The defense also did better than expected against Andrew Luck and a Colts offense that looks like it can score some points when it’s in sync. This week may be the only time this season that the Raiders are favored but the game comes against...

Mark Cuban had Parsons sign offer sheet where???

I don’t think you could dream up a more appropriate way for Chandler Parsons to sign his $45 million offer sheet from the Dallas Mavericks, than to have Mark Cuban be with you while hanging out in a nightclub. Parsons, the third-year forward for the Houston Rockets, has suddenly been thrust into the spotlight of Houston’s off season, as general manager Daryl Morey attempts to...

Pitino on Chris Jones: As good a guard as I've coached

Rick Pitino has coached some pretty good guards during his nearly 40-year career in college basketball.  Recently at Louisville, there was Russ Smith, the two-time All-American, and Peyton Siva, the point guard who led the Cardinals to a national championship in 2013. He had a host of talented players at Kentucky, too, the school with which he won it all in 1998.  A player currently...

Former Chicago Bulls player and assistant coach Rick Brunson had a clever trick up his sleeve in order to get an appointment with a masseuse he’d been banned from seeing. According to Brian Windhorst, the Nets owe $90.57 million in luxury taxes for the 2013-14 season...
