This coming Sunday a new NFL champion will be crowned, and it will be either the Baltimore Ravens or the San Francisco 49ers. And, if you are one of more than a quarter of Americans, you believe that God will actively decide the winner of the game. According to a recent survey by the Public Religion Research Institute, 27 percent of Americans believe that God “plays a role in determining which team wins a sporting event.” However, the numbers get even more specific than that. About 40 percent of minority Christians and white evangelical Protestants believe God determines outcomes, while only 19 percent of mainline Protestants do. 36 percent of Americans living in the South agree that God plays a role in sports. However, in perhaps a twist of expectations, 28 percent of Democrats agree, while only 25 percent of Republicans think that God plays a role. But in addition to God’s overall role in the outcome of games, a majority of all Americans — 53 percent — believe “God rewards athletes who have faith with good health and success.” So, that ought to work out well for Ray Lewis this Sunday.

  • Only if you're out of your f*****g mind. Yea, Timmy's just doing great, getting paid millions for doing squat. Ravens going to win? Must be nothing but atheists on the 49's. I guess God's cool with bringing you into this world (cuz "life's precious"), then taking 500 of you out in Chicago by 500 other a******s he created. Hmmmm. Get out your telescope and basic astronomy (no, NOT astrology) books, do your homework, then get back to me. Nobody gives a crap about the Ravens or the 49's except us. As George Carlin once said, "Religion is just another form of mental illness". Couldn't nothing truer be said.
  • Pauper your comments are typical of the blind and uneducated. God is involved in everything it is people who keep Him out and commit stupid acts. Read the Bible and get educated.
  • You are the one who should get educated. The Bible is NOT the truth, but a work of people who had an adgenda. After all, this thing you call God does not exist. There is zero proof of its existence. Let me repeat that; there is ZERO proof of its existence, and I challenge you or anyone to prove otherwise.
  • And just who gave you that great mind of vision? I challenge you to tell me who did that for you. Just like there is an inventor or creator for everything you could possibly imagine, we believers have faith in knowing who our and your creator Is! And as for God's word, today it seems to be the only truth, promise and guarentee. I challenge you to prove otherwise...So theres your proof, we believers know where we came from along with this beautiful Earth. You do have one thing right on, the Bible is the work of people and an agenda to get God's word out. Thanks for reading and may you find peace in his words!
  • So well said LittlePro, thanks for the inspiration. "The fool has said in his heart 'There is no God' "
  • You just proved my point. You have faith, which is NOT proof. I do not have to prove anything. But you would have to prove that something like your god exists, because it is a fact that no one can prove a negative. Otherwise, anyone could claim anything, and no one would be able to disprove them.
  • So where did you get your THEORY of evolution from?
  • I don't believe God does because then people would follow Him for success in whatever it is they do. I think even the people that don't believe would do it for the wrong reasons. Come on if He did don't think He would have chosen a different outcome regarding his Son Jesus. In closing I would say He wants everyone to come to Him because you love Him for who He is and for what He has done already. Not for any kind of selfish rewards that would bring fame for what you did and not what He did.
  • Absolutely..especially mud-wrestling, midget bowling, curling
    and this just in.."pole dancing".
  • Many fans believe that Kennedy was killed by the CIA, that the US was behind the 9/11 attacks, Fox news is fair and unbiased. Many others are simply morons, what's your point?
  • Fox news? You must be nuts.
Unless God is a bookie I doubt he has any influence on the nfl.

  • God doesn't exist.
  • You better pray he doesn't.
  • Don't take our word for it: Google "Dr John Warwick Montgomery" his resume takes up two pages. Google "Dr. Walter Martin, the original Bible Answer Man and founder of C.R.I." To every man an answer, a reason for the hope that is within us. Jeremiah said, "You will find God when you see for Him with all your heart."God bless you sir--you have some 'homework' to do!
  • Yes.. God is everywhere.. whether you believe or not...
"Out of something evil, a better goodness will come out of it".
  • If children were not indoctrinated into a religious belief system from the cradle onward, and clergy, were not allowed to go after impressionable minds until after they reached the age of 18, religions and a belief in an invisible god would just fade away. We give up Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy because we can’t see them and older, crueler children debunk the myths. Why not do the same to the god myth. Because of religion we had the crusades, the inquisition, the holocaust and 9/11. Whose side was god on in those events?
  • MurphysChild, there is an unshakeable truth. People have been trying to understand their world for millions of years. People try to explain the power and force and energy that could bring all of this together into a cohesive, functioning body. We have been trying to reconcile the things we see and know and think we know with the unfathomable magnitude of a world so far beyond our meager abilities to comprehend. Why do you suppose we sent men to the moon and spacecraft to Venus and Mars and Saturn? We are trying to understand our world still and how it came to be. And, until the end of time, man will continue to struggle to come to terms with that greatest question dogging each of us. "Where did we come from? How did we get here? How was this universe created?"

Finally, you may have a firm belief that your beliefs are correct but you cannot know with absolute certainty. So it might be a good idea to give a little allowance that someone else's theory might be right. Just maybe.
  • But ... but ... Mario! Does that mean God is biased? God picks favorites? Are you suggesting that, if I want to win the Superbowl pool I should go to church and pray to know the winner?

Here's a funny bit of a history lesson for you. In WWII, America, with our "In God We Trust" motto emblazoned on our currency, going with us everywhere including onto the battlefield, fought with the confidence that God was on our side. The German army's uniform, however, included a belt with a buckle engraved with the legend translated to English as, "God is With Us".
Both sides of that conflagration were certain that they were fighting for God! But, what was that line from that old thing ...? Oh-h, what was it? Oh, yeh. I know! "Thou shalt not kill."

And always it has been thus. Men fight and kill and destroy all in the name of God. So, does God have a favorite football team? Why isn't it the Saints? And does God play favorites? What about a fair and just God?

In the final analysis, the one truth we can take from this article is that 27% of Americans are complete and total idiots!
  • Its greatah how the Lawdah worksah. We go from a very demanding
godah in the old testaments 613 commandmentsah..to a lawdah
that provides us the strengthah to winah a sports eventah...
What a miraculous lawdah..praise the lawdah..
    An ode to the sheepah..
  • And can I get an Amen, children?

Oh, I wish I was not at work right now! I'd be LOL for sure.
  • amazing how people would think god would say to one person out of 7 billion your special, god would never single out one person or team, remember godworshipers we are all all all members of the flock end of story
  • Now, that's ABSOLUTELY hilarious. Good work.
  • so people believe god cares who wins a football game but lets little children starve, this god fellow better get his priorities straight
  • lol really? people dying and gods worrying about football? dumbasses hahaha
  • God is in control of all things, even the outcome of sports. If he weren't in control there would be severe disorder. Colossians 1:17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. -- This of course shows that without him nothing holds together.

Now, God does not promise that those who believe will receive riches or success in this life. In fact, he promises quite the opposite. No, believers can expect to be scorned and persecuted, but in the end they can also look forward to eternal glory in heaven.
  • if god is in control of all things, he's doing a really crappy job
  • Hmm...Actually, the reason that things are crappy is because humans chose to disobey God. Here is the part of the Bible explaining that:

    Gen 3

3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”

The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,

“Cursed are you above all livestock
    and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
    and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring[a] and hers;
    he will crush[b] your head,
and you will strike his heel.”

16 To the woman he said,

    “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.”

17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’

    “Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
    you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
    since from it you were taken;
    for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”

20 Adam[c] named his wife Eve,[d] because she would become the mother of all the living.

21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side[e] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
  • I love it when people quote the bible like they are reading from a math book, like its fact lololol Too funny. Tell one of those people about a Native American creation story or what a Buddhist believes and they will tell how you crazy that stuff is. The hypocracy is sooooo FUNNY!!!!! lololol
  • For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
  • thanks for proving my point, how funny....
  • I can quote from the bible too..
When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)
  • lol yes way funny
  • hmmmm..... you say and the magic fairy tale scripture about a fictional couple that wuz duped by a talking snake is suppose to mean what? what i get from that is that it's the woman's fault that we all can't walk around naked.. wouldn't that be sweet in alaska?
  • Uh, pilarsar, you do realize you just rattled off a piece of fiction, don't you? I mean, I know there are those who adamantly do not believe in God or the Bible or anything to do with religion of any sort. But even "true believers" must understand that large parts of the Bible, Genesis in particular, is nothing more than a fantasy. A hypothetical construct which people of the time rendered to try to explain what they could not understand.

(Most atheists are the polar opposite of this group. They don't understand so they simply disavow. Agnostics may well be the wisest bunch of us all. They admit that the entire concept is far too big for them to comprehend so they simply admit they don't know.)

And then we have to consider how many times since the first Bible was hand drawn and embellished by the first monk to put it down on parchment that the tome has been re-interpreted and manipulated by various dynasties for personal or political gain. Which chapters to leave in? Which to leave out? And can we take this meaning for that instead of that one? ... and then what about the poor schmuck who was used for this translation or that who knew the language but not all that well and so his translation itself is flawed? Remember that it was well after "Adam" and "Eve" were long gone from the face of the earth before anyone decided to write down the 'where we came from' stories. And, as far as I know, there were no eyewitnesses to those early 'conversations' with God to tell the first Biblical historians what went on and who said what. And the story itself, as you present it, is actually more than a bit humorous. Here we have an omnipotent, omniscient God who says, "Where are you?" and "Did you ...?" Yes, you can rationalize they "why"s and "wherefore"s but the truth is, it's just funny. It is unsubstantiated and without any proof or truth. It was made up by people trying to understand what they could not understand.

There are so many facets to the problem of manipulation of the printed Word but, in your case, pilarsar, to quote chapter and verse as though it was some absolute, undefiable, unerring, carved in stone truth is just too naive for words. Were that so, why do we have so many different versions of the Bible?
  • thank you for that!! The most intellegent response yet. How people can blindly follow this just blows my mind. You truely are a wordsmith!
  • They decided what was in and what was out at the Conference of Nicea in 325 A.D.. This is where the Roman Emperor Constantine gathered some of the church leaders of the day to decide what the official Christian doctrine was to be. As before there were many different sects that believed many different things. After the conference anyone that followed any of the doctrines or books that were left out of the bible were killed or severely punished. My question is, who was Constantine to decide what the official doctrine was to be? How did they decide what works were truly from God and others were not? In my opinion the whole purpose was to make people accept getting screwed over in this life because when you die God will reward you. If all books were divinely inspired, how could any man determine what was right and what was wrong. After learning this I became very suspect of religion. That's why I believe that God and religion have nothing to do with each other. I also think it is ridiculous to believe God picks the winner and loser of football game. I've prayed before games and stuck it up and didn't pray before other games and had the best games of my career.
  • Constantine was only one manipulator of the Bible books. The Anglican Church did a fine job through the ages of spin doctoring the big book to say what they wanted, as did the Catholic Church. Throughout the ages, he who has the power controls the words. Ah! What I wouldn't give for a first gen translation of the Bible. Not gonna happen, though. But I might just settle for a Gutenberg translation in the meantime, though.
  • lol believe everything you read? or just what you're told to? the easter bunny told me you were crazy!
  • amen!
  • World hunger, hundreds of thousands of murders around the world each year, genocide, pedophilia, rapes etc etc So you are saying God is in control of all of things? Wow that dude is a jerk!
  • now you're telling me that adam and eve were real, come on now most people who believe in god realize that that story is a fairy tale .. the snake came and talked poor eve into eating the fruit and screwed everthing up for all of mankind... no wonder women were considered 2nd class citizens for so long - they just ruined everything for us

  • Amen, Thank God the world as we know it will be coming to an end soon. Mankind or Humans have created this 'Hell on Earth' Pollution is real & so is Global Warming, because we have nearly destroyed Ourselves & Earth, Nature is unleashing it's fury upon all. Do you believe in Good & Bad? Right & Wrong? Holy & Evil? Well I do. I know for a fact there is God & I know there is Satan. The Devil has tried taking my life over twenty times in many different ways. If I wrote a book it would be a worldwide selling novel. God gives everyone FREE WILL. Not only have I saw Hell & Demons, I've seen Angels protecting me from many bullets,stabbings,5 car wrecks,explosions,electrocutions,3 car jackings, beatings and more! The Devil has tried killing me many times in many ways, but God has allowed him to only harm me a little. Sure I'm scarred all up, but I'm alive. I know for a fact that not just in my mind, but physically and spiritually there is in fact a God. I have been given Faith & many other insights. On the other hand many are called but few are chosen!! My name was written in The Lambs Book Of Life before I was ever born!! You can laugh all you want at me, I've had Satanist try & kill me unsuccessfully also. I'm not in fear at all of dying & I in fact accept it happily. No I'm not a fanatic or crazy person who wants to die, I just know that when I die there is something more for me than most. It's harder for a rich man to go through the eye of a needle than to enter the gates of Heaven. The Bible is living & can be interpreted many different ways for a reason. It gives us many lessons in life. It's not supposed to be able to be understood by 'man' or the highest scholars, it can only be truly understood through God. I'm 100% a sinner & it's hard to stop doing wrong. I know that I am & I try to do better. The fact of the matter is that many people out there that say they are Christians are not! Christian means Christ Like, that's a hard act to follow. I believe in no Religion, I believe in Relation. After all, religion might not be what you're supposed to be longing, especially since 'Evil' men have used it to kill millions.
It's really sad that the truth is that everyone is looking for answers & people are so dumb(especially today’s society) they think that if I can't see it then it's not real. Can you see the Air you breathe? Can you see the center of the Earth? Far away galaxies? If using an instrument some people can see some of these things. The Bible can be considered an Instrument of Faith, learning, understanding, a daily way of living, etc. It's supposed to be this way, where there are non believers and many false religions. Very few people get to go to Heaven! Society today is sick & twisted to the max! All great nations in the past fell once 'evil' ran rampant. It's OK to be Gay,Abortion, a complete lack of all moral fiber, etc. This country is doomed as long as things keep going the way they are & it will not be long at all before it's in ruins. Just like all nations have been proven to fall. Romans,Greeks, etc.

Everything that's happening on Earth right now is supposed to be happening. All true believers smile & know the end is near!!

  • your an idiot leave this country asap
  • ok, but that's not what that verse means. in fact the devil is the one in control of this world (1 John 5:19 We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one). (1 Corinthians 4:4 among whom [the god of this system of things] has blinded the minds of the unbelievers...)

God is not a fan of any team of any sport, people like Tim Tebow are just hypocrites that like to be seen by people in public (Mathew 6:5,6 “Also, when YOU pray, YOU must not be as the hypocrites; because they like to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the broad ways to be visible to men. Truly I say to YOU, They are having their reward in full.6 You, however, when you pray, go into your private room and, after shutting your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you.)
  • God doesn't care about sports. So I guess he awards the victory to the team or person who out prayers the other one...REALLY?
  • yep that's right whichever team prays the hardest and with the most gusto is the team that god "makes" the winner. but that accounts for only 50% the other 50% comes from the individual prayers of each and every fan and also each fans individual "goodness", the prayers of non church goers who pray for victory don't count as much a s the prayers of church goers etc.
  • Apparently 27 percent of Americans are idiots.........
  • no doubt!
  • oh pllllease!Its more like 51%
  • What a dumb question to ask? Does God play a role in sports. The better question would be , “ Where has God been while the world is trying to destroy it self? If there is a God( jury is still out) why would he bother with football or any other sporting event? Doesn't he have enough to deal with such as earthquakes, tsunami’s and wars all over the world?

I believe in freedom of religion and freedom from religion. If you want to go around praising God, fine. Just don't involve me.
  • Just watch George Carlins' "Religion is bull@#$%" on YouTube. He's right on the money.

meanjean52 is also on the money. If god is in control of all things, he's doing a really crappy job.

So is STLDan. Wow, that dude is a jerk.

I better pray that he doesn't exist, riverbanks? To who? To What? There's nothing there!
  • he's like the dad that never comes around or pays child support!
  • He's obviously forsaken the Cowboys for moving to that den on iniquity known as Cowboys Stadium. Now they do better playing on the road than at home.
  • Simple as this. Tim Tebow has been around for three years now, and I suspect Canada might be the only place he could compete. Openly praying and spewing the Jesus fable. If his results are any indication, it only tells us "Epic Fail," god hates Tebow or the teams he plays for. Or maybe "He" believes in humility?
  • Sorry, dawinsb, Jesus is not a fable. In fact, the Biblical Jesus is not only not fable but proven, historical fact. Now, whether or not you believe in God is a matter of your own choosing but, just because you cannot grasp the concept of a power greater than man, by whatever name you choose to call it, if you are a fair and honest person, you must accept the truth of the man called Jesus, son of Mary and Joseph. There is no question of faith on that point. It just is.
  • no i don't believe jesus is a proven historical fact, he may have very well walked the earth, but there is no proven historical fact that i am aware of... show me
  • lol Im sure there was someone named Jesus back then. But other then that great? powerfull? not so sure of that.
  • Actually, there were thousands named "Jesus", which is just a translation of the TRUE Hebrew name Yeshua. The name is nothing special whatsoever, given the period in history.
  • I base my statements on anthropoligical research/studies/results. It is strongly believed, in scientific circles, in fact, that they have proof of the Biblical Jesus. Believe it or not, they even have substantive evidence that he was, in fact, a woodworker. As for the water into wine, etc. there is only period anecdotal evidence which can easily be misconstrued, misrepresented, or whatever. It cannot, in this day and age, be proved true or false. Again, it falls to the ignorant to state absolutely that there is no God. There is no annointed one. It is in the agnostic that the greatest grasp of reality lies. The universe is greater than any of us can begin to fathom and to say anything with any degree of absolute certainty only proves we know nothing. Even that god of the modern age, science, has proved its fallibility over and over again through the ages as one generation's scientists state some truth absolutely only to have the next generation's science prove that "absolute truth" to be wrong. We are poor ignorant men and the mysteries of the universe are far beyond our comprehension.

"If God did not exist, man would have to invent him" - Voltaire
  • The Romans kept records of crucifixions...there was no Jesus fitting Christian description at that time, nor any written record at that time of any unusual spiritual leader. Rather, it was a summary of all 'messiah' myths in that region, and back to African myths. Why not Jupiter? Zeus? Why is Rome so right? Man created god as a way of dealing with big questions, and Rome perfected god as a brainwashing and manipulating tool. There is energy in the universe, there is a common heartbeat, but there is no one creating agent. Eternity and Infinity are not within the grasp of the finite mind yet.
  • God is in individual lives. these lives have a walk with God, a relationship. God always answers prayers, but it may not be the answer we are looking for, but because He has our interest at best, He will answer the right way.
  • Lots of sports fans have superstitions: lucky underwear, lucky chairs, etc, God is just another one of these.
  • No BigJenn... its those idiot Mormons that have the lucky magical underwear... LMAO
  • Makes so sense. I believe in God but if He loves us all, how can he take sides? You can pray for help to be your best so in that way He may be involved in the outcome.
  • Moses..the biggest sportsfan of all..and the Lance Armstrong
of the 14th century b.c.. After over a decade of draught Moses
didn't have to plea "free my people" ..they>the slaves< were
"runn-oft"..It woulda been more like.."get the hell outta my
country"..since adequate supplies of food were so diminished
that people started to eat one another..Moses, being the
architect, scholar and adopted son of the starving kingdom
decided to take advantage of this opportunity. Hence the 1st
5 books of the bible..which nearly condemns all existable
humanity with that wonderful List Of 613 Commandments..
  • If God helps the winning team, why did The Goden Domers get trashed in the BCS Championship Game!!!! Unless he really is a BAMA fan!!!!!!
  • 1. Because god ain't catholic, he's a southern baptist.
    2. he was also born in Tuscaloosa and played his college ball for the "bear" in the early 60's.
    3. He did help the winning team.
  • So what is it? is god a fan of the team from the city of gayness or a fan of the team lead by the accomplice to murder.
Really how would he choose? Oh I know it's a cain and able thing with the harbough brothers, one is good one is evil - which is which? 9er brother or raven brother, i sort of get evil connotations from ravens, so i bet he makes the 9ers win
  • beleiving in your prayers help play at a better level..you ask for strength and he gives it..he doesnt control the outcome but he controls the style of play..you can beleive in prayers and play harder or pray to see if it works and have it in your mind this doesnt work and play with a negative showing..its all if you beleive or not..BELEIVE
  • Well he sure asks for tons of it every Sunday, and gets tons of it. If he doesnt need it why do his preachers say he wants it from you? Every preahcer, EVERY religion.
  • Joel Olsteen preaches happiness, which is good! He's not perfect no-one is. He uses not one penny from the congregation for himself. He puts that money back into the church,to help others,to be on T.V. where he witnesses to others & spreads the good news.
Every penny he makes is from his videos & books, which people buy all on their own.
He's sold millions & does not ever get any money from the church. Millions of dollars, well he does not need to ask. People are happy to give they are so happy.
I think a lot of the people that are writing all this bad stuff are really bitter & sad & wish they could feel better.
All you have to do is try & have Faith. It's really hard though. You have to humble yourselves & admit your a sinner. Well, at least I tried. Most of you are not willing to do that, to admit you're wrong.
  • total bullshavic
  • 30,000 children will die this month from starvation alone. Another 3 million will die from a misquito bite this year. If the God of this universe has anything to do with the outcome of any athletic contest and doesn't give a **** about issues mentioned above, He's not a God that have an interest in worshiping. I'm convinced there's a God, and equally convinced that he's not invloved in the day to day matters of this earth.
  • If you believe in God please visit yourpropertyisblessed This is an awesome website that allows you to show your faith proudly. Remember your property is blessed.
  • God is the all mighty. He is everywhere and a part of everything!
  • Yup, he is there when children get molested and raped by the catholic clergy, and when genocide is being carried out by megalomaniacs. He is also there when millions are starving and deprived of basic necessities.

  • i believe in a higher power. but instead of playing a part in sports, he/she should interfere with theater massacres and little children getting shot at school, not a game where a bunch of millionaires run around on grass.
  • DISCLAIMER: This is my opinion. My opinion only. I do not, under any circumstance, expect anyone reading this to feel or believe the way I do. Nor do I wish to change the way you feel, or believe. If you wish to discuss your opinion. Thats just dandy. Look me up. We can have an intellegent conversation. This, however, is not the place for it. Having said that.

I do not feel that God would directly influence a football game or any other sporting event. Other than keeping the players and patrons safe during the event. Provided they had prayed or someone else had prayed asking for it for them. I feel (see disclaimer) that God did create everything. With that I also believe that he created random chance as well. Since he gifted us with the capacity for free will. We have choices. We can choose. If the teams choose to win. Then they will win based on the choices they have made in the past and during the game. Now, I hear you saying choices in the past? Ok, I mean like choosing to practice more, instead of slacking off because your just to good. Choosing to sharpen your skills. Learning and doing those skills until they are as involuntary as breathing. So having said all that. It comes down to the choices they will make. Pass or rush. Long bomb or short pitch. This guy or that guy. Wind. Temp. Glare. It all comes down to random chance based off your choices.
  • I believe there is some confusion here. People are going to have faith. They can use that faith in order to achieve something. But God is not going to look at one team or another and say they have greater faith, will, courage, long suffering, or other qualities of enduring faith in order to win a football game. It's a game, a sport, something people enjoy play and watching. It's not an outcome of God's devine will. Here is what I think http://wp.me/pVbXe-4s.
  • No, if you notic most of the sports players are catolic and their no catolics in Heaven sports players or not. Never has been and never will be as long as they are catolic.
  • there are no catholics in heaven? and you know this...how? why do you consider "most sports players" to be catholics?
Does being catholic damn you to hell ? Are you completely crazy
oe did you just escape from the looney bin?
  • Many fans must be utterly retarded. How can anyone be dumb enough to think they're imaginary friend is rigging football games, while 1/3 of the world's population is either starving or malnourished? This line of thought is beyond stupid.
  • Or killed by tyrants like Asad, Gadafi (well was), or suffers in cess pools/prison colonies like Syria, North Korea, or the like. We quite literally have countries that are practically the equivalent to hell on Earth... There's more important things going on in the world then which team wins a competitive sport (which also means by definition which team loses, also)...

I think these fans could use a little perspective. Yes, we obviously watch/follow sports, or we likely wouldn't be visiting the site. But one's sense of perspective has to be a tad out of whack if the thinking is "my team wins" is more important and more deserving of attention then people being gunned down by corrupt world leaders or the like...
  • One of the teams has to win, so if GOD determines the outcome of a game then that means he let one of them down.
  • As the good book is written...The Fool says in his heart "There is No God." There is a God regardless of what anyone wants to believe. God created everyone of his own free will to think and believe what ever he so choses. You have every right to say there is no God. But it doesn't make it so. God has no influence on the outcome of sports...only the people with open hearts who play them. People shut God out of their lives and then when something tragic happens, they blame him. Hummm!
  • If you honestly believe that 'God' influences sports outcomes, you are an idiot. I don't care how many degrees you have.
That's what is wrong with America.
  • If Jesus played football what number would he be? I think he would pick #1 and that would make him a kicker. Need I say more!
  • Only if you're an American! Really?!?!?!?! And would you blame God or think he was responsible for any serious injuries! There are people in this country who think God said for us to have guns, there are people who invoke God's name before they take part in battle, in which they'd take part in killing God's OTHER children, and there are people who pray to God before they take a test. But NO! God does not care/control sports events! And if he did, WTH happened to my Cowboys.
  • With all that's going on in the world any god I believe in BETTER have more important things to do than get involved in some 'game' played by grossly overpaid jocks that means almost less than zero in the events of the day. And if he IS involved....he's fired! There are WAY too many gods to choose from to settle for one with nothing better to do than follow sports. Maybe THAT'S why we're as messed up as we are. God's given up too and figures we might as well go out beating the spread.
  • I don't beleive God plays a role in the outcome of a game but I do believe a player can pray for God to help him do the best to his ability.
  • Sorry to say, but this is stupid. Setting aside the whole religion vs atheism discussion for a moment; it's a good bet you have Christians (along with Jews, agnostics, atheists, perhaps a few Buddhists, and yes these days it would seem Muslims as well) who happen to be fans on more then one of these teams, perhaps all of them. So two guys pray for a win being fans of opposing teams.

These people really believe that God made their team win, which of course means making the team for the fan who prayed in favor of the opposing team lose? You can't have a winner without also having a loser. Seriously? What reason would there be for some omnipotent being to take sides and "cause" the other guy to lose, to the disappointment of the opposing teams own fans? Give me a break :o Quite frankly, I would find it of no comfort to think of an omnipotent being as being partial, whimsical, and "taking sides" in matters of human competition. I'd find it, quite dis-quieting tbh ;)
  • That would be tough since there is no God!!
  • I personally think the easter bunny decides the outcome. Or maybe the 6 foot caterpillar in alice in wonderland
  • Of course God plays a role in sports, just like God plays a role in everything in our lives. Only heathens refuse to believe this.
  • you are joking ...right? why didn't god kill hitler before he killed millions of his people?
  • This is just stupid. There is no way our creator would take sides on a freakin' game; making one win over another. Now I do think He would have a lot to do with individual's safety. Praying for everyone to come out of the game healthy would be a very good thing.
  • God is sleeping!
  • A stupid question really!
We all know that "God" is a figment of "mans" imagination. Do we honestly believe that the world was created by a omnipotent being? Talking snakes in the Garden of Eden, large boats carrying an assortment of animals, a virgin birth?? Are you having a laugh? Wake up, read Darwin, the world is not only 5,000 years old, its much more older and wiser.
  • Darwin was stupid and I think no God does not play role in any kind of football or things of that nature. He give everyone choices yours seems not to believe but, trust me one day you will!

Odell Beckham: I don't want to be known only for 'the catch'

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. became a household name last year after he made that spectacular one-handed touchdown catch against the Dallas Cowboys. That freakish display of athleticism by Beckham has since been referred to by many as “the catch.” However, that is not the only thing that Beckham would like to be known for in the NFL. In a recent interview...

Borland on retirement: Health 'more important' than money

One of the more surprising moments of the NFL offseason occurred back in March when former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Chris Borland retired after just one year in the league. For Borland—a former first-team All-American at Wisconsin—the decision was about much more than money. In announcing his retirement, the linebacker had this to say: “I just honestly want to do...

We might be less than a week into NBA free agency, but a whole heck of a lot has happened around the Association. Here are three of the most-improved...

Prior to their 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, the Chicago White Sox honored members of the military by stationing them on the field with the home team. Among the uniformed that made their way to the field was Air Force captain Zachary Eaton who is, you guessed it, the older brother of White Sox center fielder. “That was a little shocking when I first came...
