Via Pro Football Zone:

As we mentioned earlier tonight, the Washington Redskins may end up not firing head coach Mike Shanahan.

Now we know why.

According to Mark Maske of The Washington Post, Redskins owner Dan Snyder is currently unwilling to pay the $13 million buyout that it would cost the team to fire Shanahan and his staff.

Snyder and Shanahan have been playing a high-stakes game of chicken, with many speculating that Shanahan is trying to get fired so he can collect the remainder of his salary and move on. If Snyder is that adamant about not buying out the contract, Shanahan and the Redskins could be stuck with one another for another season.
