Not too long ago, New York Giants great and now NFL expert Amani Toomer stated that he believes Dallas Cowboys gun slinger Tony Romo is a better quarterback than his own former teammate Eli Manning. Toomer justified his ludicrous words by saying that, statistically, he is superior to Manning. Now Manning has finally come back with a playful jab of his own.
“I saw Toomer not too long ago, I just walked up to him and said, ‘You know what, I thought Ike Hilliard (was) a better Giants receiver than you were. Willie Ponder was probably a better receiver than you were," Manning said.
Toomer is one of the best receivers in Giants history and currently holds the franchise record for most receiving yards. Manning knows how great Toomer was and how important his abilities were for the Giants'. Since Manning was drafted he has been a true professional, and knows not to take any offense to comments like these.
“You’ve got to laugh about it instead of getting upset. There’s no point," the quarterback said.
It was on Sirius XM radio that Toomer originally expressed his highly debatable opinion.
“[Romo is] probably the best quarterback in the NFC East. If I wanted a guy that is going to throw less interceptions and be more productive, higher completion percentage, I’m going to go with Tony Romo," Toomer said.
Statistics are one thing, but success and winning is another. Eli has just led the New York Giants to their second Super Bowl title in the last five years, not to mention he was the MVP both times. Manning's resumé far outweighs that of Tony Romo who's playoff record is only 1-3. Manning insists that he and Toomer are good friends despite his comments.
"Amani's a good pal of mine, and still is. So you've got to laugh about it," he said.
