New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck is one of the teams more vocal leaders, and he is a fan favorite. Justin Tuck is 30 years old and his performance has been on the decline since 2010. In 2010 he had 11.5 sacks and he has not had double digit sacks in a season since. He has been plagued with injuries and it seems like he is never 100% anymore. At the end of the season his contract is up, and the Giants and him will go their separate ways.
This year has been Justin Tucks worst year so far, and it seems to only get worst. Justin Tuck is 30 years old and he is constantly suffering from injuries. So far this year Tuck has not registered a sack, and is a non factor on the pass rush. Justin Tuck can’t explain why he and the entire defensive line are having this kind of season.
So far this season the entire team has just five sacks registered in six games, and that worst in the NFL for team sacks. The New York Giants have always been a team synonymous with a good pass rush on defense. Tuck has not shown that he is still an impact player. It is going to take a very good performance from here on out to warrant a contract extension for Tuck.
The Giants could use the cap space to address some of the issues with the offensive line. If the Giants finish with a horrible record and have a top 10 pick in the draft, they might be able to get a pass rusher. If the Giants can get a defensive linemen in the draft like Jadeveon Clowney they most likely will. There is no telling what the upcoming free agent class would like, or how the next draft class will look like. However; having the cap flexibility would be very helpful for the team.
It will be sad for to Justin Tuck go after being such a big part of the Giants organization. There is just no reason for the Giants to keep him. He is under performing this season, and he just can stay healthy either. The Giants need to get younger and its going to be at the expense of the older players. This will be Justin Tuck’s last season as a New York Giant.
