New York Giants wide receiver Ramses Barden has had several chances over the last few years. Big Blue made him their third-round selection in the 2009 draft in hopes that he could serve as the replacement for Plaxico Burress. Barden was a touchdown producing machine at California Polytechnic State University, breaking all kinds of records, giving hope to the Giants that he could produce at that level in the NFL.

Barden is now entering the final year of his rookie contract, putting his future with the Giants into question. So far in his NFL career, injuries have kept him from seeing the field much. Injuries have made it hard for Barden to learn the speed of the NFL game, making it difficult for him to gain experience, which is so crucial for a young player. Now Barden find himself healthy and eager to prove that he was worthy of the third round selection. There is no doubting that he has an NFL body at 6' 6". His size provides Eli Manning with a weapon, like Burress, who can win the jump balls, especially in the end zone.

Barden is going into this training camp with something to prove, and now with the departure of Mario Manningham to San Francisco, he has a great opportunity in front of him. He will be competing with Domenik Hixon, Jerrel Jernigan, and second round pick Reuben Randle for the third wide receiver position. Any of those players appear to have an equal chance to earn that spot. Barden needs to have an excellent training camp to prove to the coaching staff he is capable of being the third wide receiver. Barden has shown he has great confidence in himself, as he explained to the Daily News

“I’m here to be the man. Plain and simple,” he adds. “There’s no explanation needed.”

Being the man on the Giants will be difficult while Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz are still around. But with the combination of this being his contract year, and the departure of Mario Manningham, the chances of him having a break out year are strong.
