The New York Giants are one of the wealthiest, most decorated and recently successful teams in all of professional sports. Unfortunately, they still take a back seat to the Dallas Cowboys, who were once again crowned "America's Team" in a recent popularity poll conducted by ESPN. Dallas led the way with 8.2% of the vote, followed by the publicly owned Green Bay Packers with 7.2% and then the Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers tied at #3 with 7.1% of the vote. In the 2011 Harris Poll -which contains a significantly smaller sample size than that of the ESPN poll- Big Blue was ranked 7th in the NFL. They also ranked 7th in 2010 and 8th in 2009. Even after their Super Bowl XLII victory over the New England Patriots, they failed to eclipse 7th in said poll. Their lowest ranking had been 11th in 2003. So what does all of this mean? Well, truth be told, not too much unless you're in the cellar like the St. Louis Rams (0.7%) and Jacksonville Jaguars (0.4%). However, it should be noted that the New York Jets, whom were the talk of the town only a year ago at this time, now rank only 19th in the league with 1.5% of the vote. Looks the bandwagoners have abandoned ship Also… Be sure to "like" Giants 101 on Facebook and to follow Giants 101 on Twitter Text "oneteam" to 20222 to donate $10 to the One Team for the Lights charity initiative.
