The New York Jets fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers 19-6 on Sunday, causing the Jets to fall to (3-3) on the season. Geno Smith threw two red zone interceptions on Sunday in the Jets 19-6 loss to the Steelers Geno Smith was brought back down to earth this week after a phenomenal performance last week in Atlanta. Smith was intercepted twice on Sunday, both in the red zone. Mike Goodson and Bilal Powell both left the game early, causing the Jets to rush for a season low 83 yards.  The Jets lost wide receiver Clyde Gates early in the game and were without Santonio Holmes and Kellen Winslow. Smith finished 19 of 34 for 201 yards with the two interceptions and was sacked three times. Whats concerning about Sunday’s loss is the Jets only handed the ball off 17 times, forcing Geno Smith to throw the ball 34 times. In the Jets last two wins against Buffalo and Atlanta, Smith threw less then 30 passes. In all three Jets loses, Smith has thrown 34 or more passes. The key to the Jets winning is establishing a running game, causing defenses to respect the run and not constantly pressure Smith. With that being said, Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau is (16-2) all time against rookie quarterbacks. LeBeau had a great game plan for Smith. Smith was 2-of-10 with an interception on throws 15 yards or more and had a season-low 6.5 total quarterback rating. The Jets defense struggled on Sunday. The Steelers scored on four straight possessions. Ben Roethlisberger completed 23-of-30 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown. Roethlisberger connected with Emmanuel Sanders for a 55-yard touchdown for the only touchdown of the day, burning Antonio Cromartie. The Jets run defense did play well holding the Steelers to 2.8 yards per attempt. The Jets pass defense on the other hand, hasn’t looked good, letting up over 200 yards passing in each of the past 4 games. The Jets are struggling with injuries in the defensive backfield with, Milliner out and Wilson and Cromartie both banged up. The Jets will host the (5-1) New England Patriots next week. The Jets must be more consistent on offense, both running the ball and limiting turnovers (especially in the red zone). The Jets pass defense will need to step up its game against Tom Brady and the return of Rob Gronkowski this week if it has any chance of knocking off the division leading Pats.
