After a terrible performance today, New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith might not be playing Saturday when the Jets host the Jacksonville Jaguars in their second preseason game. Geno Smith’s ankle injury might leave the Jets with no choice but to start Mark Sanchez week 1 Geno Smith hurt his ankle against the Detroit Lions last Friday, causing him to end his NFL debut early. After a shaky week of practice with the sore ankle, Smith had his worst day of camp today. He threw four interceptions and did not look comfortable at all throughout the practice. Smith said it has nothing to do with the ankle and that he had a bad day, but Rex Ryan suggested the ankle may have played a factor. Ryan said Smith is not close to a 100 percent and may not play Saturday if the ankle doesn’t heal. If Smith is out, it will give Mark Sanchez a huge lead in the race and can end up being the end of Smith’s chances at starting the regular season opener. Other Notes: Running back Chris Ivory says his hamstring is back at 100 percent and is back to practicing. However, Ivory may not play Saturday against Jacksonville. The Jets desperately need their running backs to get healthy to help take some of the load off of Bilal Powell. Powell has been the only healthy running back all camp and has taken a ton of reps. Joe McKnight who has had constant problems throughout his career returned to the field but is not cleared for full contact. McKnight has been battling a head injury and hasn’t practiced since August 2. McKnight left practice early on Monday however with an oxygen mask on. McKnight’s lack of production and off field issues may force the Jets into a decision if whether or not McKnight deserves a roster spot.
