NFL hands down suspension to Frankie Luvu after multiple rule violations

A disastrous season for the Washington Commanders is only continuing to get worse. Just hours after officially losing at least and possibly even three of its star players for the remainder of the season, Washington got bad news surrounding the status of linebacker Frankie Luvu for Week 10.

Frankie Luvu suspended for one game

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Luvu has been suspended for one game due to "repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players." It comes in relation to Luvu's third instance of a hip-drop tackle this season.

Other occurrences

Luvu was fined after Washington's Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons as well as Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Along with those two instances, Luvu was fined after last season's NFC divisional-round matchup against the Detroit Lions.

The fourth occurrence of his career has now led to a suspension in what could be a make-or-break game for the Commanders season in Week 10 against Detroit.

Must-win territory

With a record of 3-6 and eight games remaining, Washington is in must-win territory for the remainder of the season. That will be extremely hard without key players like Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, Marshon Lattimore and, now, Luvu.

A loss to the Lions on Sunday would almost officially knock the Commanders out of the playoff picture just one season after reaching the NFC Championship game.
