After capturing the No. 1 seed in the AFC two years ago, the 4-8 Titans are on the verge of their second consecutive losing season. To forestall that seeming inevitability, they’ll need to upset the 9-3 Dolphins, who are looking to improve their chances of being this season’s top seed. If Tennessee hopes to stay competitive as a two-touchdown underdog in Miami, a viable game plan would prominently feature the subject of our preferred prop:
The bet: Over 30½ receiving yards for Titans tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo (FanDuel)
Possessing a rare combination of size and speed, Okonkwo was drafted out of Maryland in last year’s fourth round. He flashed unique explosiveness as a rookie, exceeding this number on a single catch four times over a five-game span.
This season, Okonkwo is the team’s second-leading receiver, trailing only wideout DeAndre Hopkins in targets, receptions and yards. He has set a new season high for yardage in each of the last two games, posting 45 against the Panthers two weeks ago and then 62 in an overtime loss to the Colts. And his role should only expand tonight because fellow tight end Josh Whyle has been ruled out with a knee injury.
On the other side is a Dolphins defense that owns a top-10 ranking against both the run and the pass. Although the Titans would be content to pound the ball with Derrick Henry, a negative game script figures to alter their offensive approach.
Once they’re trailing and throwing, Chig will truly get going.
