This has been an interesting NFL Season to say the least.  For the first time in two decades, there is no Brett Favre (surprisingly) or Peyton Manning.  Not only that, but the supposed “Dream Team” Philadelphia Eagles are in last place in the NFC East, the Detroit Lions are actually winning, and the Houston Texans might not finish 8-8 this season. With Week 7 wrapping up, here are the Taking Bad Schotz candidates for MVP.

Aaron Rodgers:

This is the obvious choice right here.  The Green Bay Packers are the only undefeated team left, and Rodgers is still on his playoff hot streak.  A 20-3 TD to interception ratio and a 125 QB rating is impressive, even for Rodgers.

Wes Welker:

In what alternate universe, does a 5’9, 185 pound WR become an MVP candidate?  The answer is when this WR is on pace for 136 catches, and over 1800 yards. With these statistics, Welker has not only made himself a surprising MVP candidate, but has earned the rights in my book to make Rex Ryan foot fetish jokes again.

Calvin Johnson:

Megatron should win this award solely based on being the best player on a Detroit Lions team that is actually in playoff contention (first time that sentence has ever been completed).  Calvin Johnson’s freak of nature size and athleticism makes a dominant red zone threat and he has 10 TD’s through 7 games.

Peyton Manning:

This one is half-serious. With Peyton, the Colts are one of the top teams in the league and a perennial playoff contender. Without Peyton, the Colts are 0-6, and are in contention of getting the 1st pick in the draft. The Patriots nearly made the playoffs without Tom Brady.  The Colts on the other hand, can’t even win a game. The Colts’ horrendous season so far just proves how valuable Peyton Manning is to that team, which is why he is in the MVP race despite not playing a snap.
