Nick Sirianni bluntly explains what Eagles fans might not know about the offense

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and his offense have been under fire this week with yet another poor showing in their 31-25 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After racking up 201 yards of offense in the first half, the second half showed off a staggering -1 yard from the offense. Four of their second half drives ended in negative yards. Quarterback Jalen Hurts had zero completions in the second half, running back Saquon Barkley had less than three yards a carry, and A.J. Brown took to social media to vent his frustrations after two catches for seven yards.

This offense is ranked near the bottom of the league in total offense and passing offense, which has led to many questioning what is going on. Eagles starting left tackle Jordan Mailata has attempted to devise various solutions. Mailata has suggested everything from more play-action calls to adding more urgency to getting to the line of scrimmage on offense.

Everyone wants answers and there simply hasn't been. Someone has to give the fan base some context into what is happening.

Nick Sirianni dives deeper into the complexity of the offense

While speaking with the media on Wednesday, Sirianni addressed some of those concerns and why there hasn't been more urgency with getting up to the line quicker. He did acknowledge that it is something they are focused on, but there is more than just calling a play.

“Kevin has to say what personnel we’re in, then those coaches offensively have to send in that personnel — whether you’re in 11, 12, variations of 11 [and] 12, 21, whatever it is," Sirianni said via Bleeding Green Nation. "Then, Kevin calls the play in, then Jalen’s gotta read the call there, and then everyone’s expected, obviously, to know exactly what they have to do there. Because if there’s any hesitation, then there has to be another little bit of communication, so they gotta get lined up, get set.

Then, there’s the aspect of seeing what the defense is so you can make your calls, whether it’s a run game, pass game, or anything, so you can get on the same page. So, there’s so much to it. There’s so much to it that you want to be able to get up to the line of scrimmage so you’re able to go through your entire process and account for some of these things.“

It makes sense that it isn't easy to run an offense. The point is, the Eagles should look at what they did in the second half of the Los Angeles Rams game when they were down by 19 points. They moved quickly to the line and had no huddle situations. That led to some big passes by Hurts, spreading the Rams' defense, and they were able to complete the comeback with a 33-26 win.

Eagles fans want to see more from that as that has shown to be the recipe for success. Whether they will be able to get that done against a stellar Denver Broncos defense on Sunday is another question.
