SAN DIEGO - JANUARY 14: Head coach Marty Schottenheimer of the San Diego Chargers looks on before the AFC Divisional Playoff Game against the New England Patriotsheld on January 14, 2007 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)

These aren't coaching candidates, this is the NFL unemployment line getting interviews to keep their unemployment checks coming. The only coach I've heard of coming to Tampa Bay to interview that sounds half way decent was the Rooney Rule requirement of Jerry Grey.
The rest are over the hill, havn't accomplished anything remarkable to date, and uninspiring.

Until I heard Marty Schottenheimer, and I can live with that. Oh sure, he chokes in the playoffs...but   tell me we wouldnt tear down a wall in the Bay Area to have Tony Dungy back, and he lost the last of his 3 playoff games without scoring a single offensive touchdown.

But Marty Schottenheimer went 14-2 the last time we saw him coach. Then the owner saw a 'gleam' in another coaches eye and jumped on it...after a SECOND ROUND playoff loss.

Of course, Marty Ball will go well with LeGarrette Blount, but maybe not with the Bucs 4-3 defense. Thats another matter all together, but have we really looked at how good a coach Marty Schottenheimer is?

Coach of the year in 3 different decades??? 1986, 1995 and 2004? Thats amazing!

Career Record? 200-126-1 !

You all wanted someone who was a coordinator first? Well Marty was the D coordinator with the Giants in 1977, and again in 1980 with the Cardiac Kids, the '80 Browns. He coached Browns linebacker Bill Cowher!
Yes, THAT Bill Cowher.

In 1984 he became the Browns head coach, and led the Brownies to the AFC Championship game twice.
In 1989 he went to coach the KC Chiefs until 1998. He was 101-58-1 with them.
2001 Redskins
2002 he went to San Diego and turned that franchise around. He was fired in 2006 after a 14-2 season.

In each case, Schottenheimer was fired before he had a chance to do something special. They Called Dungy a choker too, but eventually, in the right system, he managed to win the big one.

Maybe this is Marty's big shot??
