We knew that it would pretty much be impossible for Nick Foles to match his performance against Oakland. You can’t expect a guy to throw for seven touchdowns every game. You can’t really expect a guy to ever throw seven touchdowns in a game. However, Foles put together another solid performance on the road in Green Bay. On the day, Foles was 12-18 for 228 yards and added three more touchdowns. He became only the second quarterback in league history to throw for 10 touchdowns and no interceptions over a two week span. Although it wasn’t anything flashy, he was also able to make a few plays with his legs when he needed to. Chip Kelly has not committed to Foles to the public, but it is being reported that he will be the guy for the rest of the season barring any injury. This makes sense to me as he has really earned it over the last few weeks and showed us that the Dallas game early this year was truly just an off day for him. With Sunday’s win under their belt, the Eagles improve to 5-5 on the season and are now tied atop the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys. I think both teams have a similar difficultly level in their remaining six games and the division crown could very well come down to a Week 17 showdown in Dallas. The biggest question for me is whether or not Foles can continue this trend and prove that he deserves to be the Eagles starting quarterback in 2014 and beyond. We know that the quarterback class entering this years draft has some talent and time will only tell whether or not the Eagles will chose to dip into that. They wouldn’t necessarily have to pick a quarterback in the first round, but it’s probably their best bet if they’re attempting to find their quarterback of the future. At the moment, I’m very torn about the situation. You can’t deny Foles’ numbers and what he’s been doing as of late. He’s proven to be very accurate and is executing Chip’s offense at a high level right now. Foles won’t kill you in the run game, but he has shown good decision making in when to run. In this read option offense, I like having a guy who is a true threat at quarterback to run the football. That just adds another dynamic to the offense. At the same time, you don’t want to have a quarterback who relies heavily on making plays with his feet. You need a guy who can sit back in the pocket and deliver the football with accuracy. There are a number of potential candidates who will enter the 2014 NFL Draft and I’m sure the Eagles will perform their due diligence. At the same time, wouldn’t it be nice to not have to worry about drafting a quarterback? Wouldn’t it be nice to use a first round pick on a defensive play maker? A guy who can be a physical force that opposing offenses fear? That type of presence has been lacking in Philadelphia for some time now. There’s still plenty of football to be played. Hopefully, the situation plays itself out clearly. One thing is certain. Foles will do everything in his power over the next six weeks to prove to Chip Kelly that he deserves to be the Eagles starting quarterback in 2014. (Photo Credits: USA Today, Philly.com)
