Through the first month of the NFL season, the Packers have been among the more complete teams in football.
Despite hiccups the past two games against the Dallas Cowboys (a 40-40 tie), and a heartbreaking last-second walkoff loss to teh Cleveland Browns, the Packers have the pieces in place on both sides of the football to make a run.
None of those pieces are more valuable than quarterback Jordan Love, who is off to one of the fastest and most consistent starts to a season, in his young career.
Over at ESPN, NFL analyst Bill Barnwell put together a list of the top candidates for each award, after the season’s first four weeks, including Love as a top MVP candidate.
“Jordan Love got off to a good start with the Packers,” Barnwell writes of Love. “And he’s averaging 8.3 yards per attempt, which is good for fourth in the league. He has turned the ball over only twice, but they’ve been costly mistakes: An interception set the Browns up for a score-tying touchdown in Week 3, while a strip sack on a play where Love held the football before attempting to check down handed the Cowboys a short field for a touchdown in Week 4.”
Love has already passed for 1,000 yards with eight touchdowns to one interception with a stellar 113 passer rating, as a driving force of the Packers’ success.
If Love continues at this clip, and the Packers make a run at the top seed in the NFC, his MVP resumè is going to be quite compelling by season’s end.
