The Patriots almost never lose coming off a bye wee. The extra time to prepare is just too valuable for Bill Belichick. Even so, the Patriots are underdogs heading into their Monday night matchup in Carolina. The Panthers are one of the hottest teams in the NFL, winning five straight games entering Week 11 and coming off a gutsy win against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The Patriots (7-2) hold a better record than the Panthers (6-3) this season, but Carolina’s momentum and solid home record (3-1 this season) apparently gives them the edge in primetime showdown. The Panthers open the week as one-point (-1) favorites against the Patriots, according to Bovada. Carolina was a “unanimous” favorite for the game this week, according to Peter Korner, founder of Nevada-based odds service The Sports Club. Korner also noted that the betting line could get as high as three points (-3) in Carolina’s favor before Monday. “We were all unanimous about Carolina being the favorite,” says Korner....

Bill Belichick Gives Long In Depth Response to Hazing in the Locker Room

Bill Belichick often gives long and thoughtful responses to questions asked by reporters. You usually don't hear that much about them because most of the media don't ask questions which lend themselves nicely to deep analysis or critical thought. Give him a good question though, and you'll get a good answer. The issue which has swept up the NFL over the past week...

Bill Belichick on His Father's Influence

Bill Belichick did a recent interview and the Patriots head coach expounded on his father's influence in his life, both professionally and personally. Bill's father, Steve, was a football coach at Navy, and Bill would often tag along to view practices and even go on scouting trips. The experiences were very formative. Per ESPN: "One of the things that I respect...

Bill Belichick Won’t Comment on Whether Patriots Interested in Ed Reed, Says Team Always Evaluating Available Players

Bill Belichick can be so helpful. Unless, of course, he chooses not to be. Belichick batted down suggestions that the Patriots could be looking at signing former Ravens and Texans safety Ed Reed on Wednesday, but not without giving reporters a nice, long explanation of how the Patriots keep tabs on players around the league throughout the year. Belichick spent 421 words describing...

Bill Belichick Watched Film With Navy After Homework as Kid, Reflects on Father’s Influence in Veterans Day Tribute (Video)

Bill Belichick has been around football his entire life. He has his father to thank for that. Steve Belichick was a coach and scout in the college football ranks for over 40 years, spending 30 of them at the Naval Academy. His commitment to the game of football gave the younger Belichick great knowledge of the game as well as a great appreciation for the values and service of the...

Bill Belichick Stonewalls on Possible Ed Reed Talk

Bill Belichick, unsurprisingly, refused to say one way or another if the Patriots were looking to bring in Ed Reed as a Patriot, should he clear waivers. Per ESPN: When asked if the Patriots have interest in safety Ed Reed, who was waived by the Texans on Tuesday, Bill Belichick said today: “I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to comment on players that aren’t...

Patriots back from bye, ready for prime time games

The New England Patriots are back from their bye week and they are getting ready for back-to-back prime time games. The Patriots play in Carolina against the Panthers next Monday night, followed by a Sunday night game at home against the Denver Broncos. Coach Bill Belichick says the night games don't mess with the weekly schedule much. But on game day, players do have to adjust...

Tom Brady on Dolphins bullying: ‘Not an issue that Patriots want to deal with’

New England quarterback Tom Brady told WEEI 93.7 FM on Tuesday that harassment is not something players have to deal with in the Patriots locker room because, “we have great respect for one another.” “I’ve been a part of one locker room — or two, really, being in Michigan and being in the Patriot locker room,” Brady said. “We’ve got a great group of guys, we have...

Armond Armstead unlikely to play this year, according to Bill Belichick

Patriots fans hoping to get some extra support on that defensive line from CFL standout Armond Armstead will be sorely disappointed. The defensive lineman from USC was not drafted due to some heart issues when he was coming out of college. He landed with the CFL and turned many heads there and the Patriots picked him up this offseason. There were high hopes that Armstead could be...

The Patriots are underdogs against Carolina

Photo from Sports Illustrated Yep, you heard me. The Patriots are opening as underdogs for the match up against the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football, according to CSNNE. Las Vegas had them at 1.5 point underdogs when the betting opened, CSNNE reports. That has mainly to do with the fact that Carolina is one of the hottest teams in the lague right now and are coming off...

Willie McGinest, Heath Evans Say Ed Reed ‘Makes Sense’ for Patriots, Especially Considering Bill Belichick’s Views

Ed Reed already seemed like a good fit for the New England Patriots, especially given the praise Bill Belichick has had for the safety throughout his career. But now that Reed has been cut loose by his latest team, the Texans, and labeled disgruntled and a locker room problem, he may be considered even more likely to latch on with the team that loves talent no matter the baggage...

Patriots Could Be Dark Horse in NFL, Notch Strong Record, Playoff Run While Other Teams Steal Attention

The Patriots are 7-2, the third-best record in the AFC (tied for fifth-best in the NFL). But compared to the hype and worry that often surrounds New England (and did coming into this year), the Patriots are positively flying under the radar right now, with plenty of other teams — many of them big names with middling records — getting the attention instead. That’s the way the...

Shane Vereen will face 'higher level of competition' this week in practice

Running back Shane Vereen will take on an intensified workload at practice this week in order for the coaches to determine if he's ready to play Monday night against the Panthers. Vereen has been on short-term injured reserve since breaking his wrist in the season opener, and he is eligible to return to game action this week. It sounds like that is a legitimate possibility as...
