The Patriots had their entire crew of scouts at the NFL Combine, which continued today with testing and running for the defensive linemen. Same as every team. All 32 of them send their best and brightest to Indianapolis to try to gain an advantage over everyone else and learn a little bit about the prospects. What is the their goal? For that, the folks at Patriots Today, the in-house online show, checked in with Patriots director of college scouting Jon Robinson. “You really don’t have any access to the players during their season,” Robinson explained. “They’re trying to get their selves ready for their games on Saturdays and stuff, so the ability to sit down and talk to that player, especially at big schools like Oklahoma, Texas, Florida where you have multiple prospects… A: We don’t have time to sit down them. B: the kids don’t have time to sit down and talk to us. Really, the feel-out process really comes at the Combine.” (more…)

Rob Gronkowski spikes puck at Worcester Sharks game (Video)

Rob Gronkowski continues to be a good sport despite the criticism he’s faced since being photographed and recorded dancing shirtless after his team’s Super Bowl loss. The stud Patriots tight end showed up at the Worcester Sharks AHL game Friday and spiked the puck before the game. The event was arranged during the season when Gronk was fined for spiking the football after...

Report: Patriots Ask Chad Ochocinco to Restructure Contract

Patriots wide receiver Chad Ochocinco had a forgettable season in 2011, and now, 2012 hasn't gotten off to the most desirable start, either. The Patriots have approached Ochocinco about restructuring his contract, according to Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal. The exact details of the proposal weren't clear. Julian Edelman rides Zamboni at intermission of Bruins game (Pictures)

I’ve spoken before of my dream to one day drive a Zamboni (preferably while sloshed). Patriots receiver Julian Edelman took advantage of his celebrity status in the New England-area by riding a Zamboni at intermission of the Bruins game Tuesday. Yup, Edelman got to live out every living person’s dream. Unfortunately he was just chilling like a guest on a parade float while someone...

Patriots to franchise tag Wes Welker

The New England Patriots are expected to place the franchise tag on wide receiver Wes Welker, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The one-year tag would be worth $9.5 million to the NFL’s leading receiver, and give the Pats more flexibility to work out a long-term deal with the wideout before the 2012 season. Franchise-tagging Welker would keep him from becoming an unrestricted...

Patriots WR/DB Julian Edelman was among the players to serve pancakes to children at Boston’s Children’s Hospital today, and he’s got a busy day. Turns out tonight, Edelman will be riding the zamboni at the Bruins game. He broke the news in a Tweet last night, saying, “Riding the old #echostorzamboni at the b’s game tomorrow! Oooo what!! #gopats #gobruins.” After the...

Patriots WR Deion Branch reiterates his wish: “Gotta retire as a Pat”

One virtually ignored free-agent question the Patriots have leading up to March 13 is veteran WR Deion Branch. Their former draft pick, the last WR they hit on, resurrected his career in New England over the past two seasons. He’s been a key part of two stellar regular seasons since coming over from Seattle, with 51 catches for 702 yards this season. When QB Tom Brady is in trouble...
