There is still no news on the wide receiver front for the New England Patriots. The team could have slapped the franchise tag on Wes Welker early this week but has yet to do so. Reports are that the two sides still are significantly apart on a long-term deal, but no one expects the Pats to let Welker hit the market. It is no secret that New England needs to add an outside receiver with big-play capability to help out Welker and Tom Brady. And one name making the rounds this week is likely free agent Brandon Lloyd. Even without...

  • I'm pretty sure Welker will be back with the Pats. He has been a goldmine for them, you can't toss him out because of one dropped pass. I would like to see a team like the Pats get Toby Gerheart from Minnesota. Minnesota will not utilize this strong, and, talented player. He was a dominant player on a real good Stanford team. Goes to Minnesota and sits.

Patriots will franchise Welker?

Wes Welker is a free agent, so what will the Patriots do? Let him walk, franchise him, or try to sign him to a long-term deal?

Report: Pats likely to franchise Welker

The New England Patriots will franchise tag wide receiver Wes Welker if the two sides cannot come to agreement on a long-term deal before the March 5 deadline, the Boston Herald reported Saturday, citing a source. The $9.5 million franchise wide receiver tag, which is down $2 million from last year, gives Welker a one-year deal but no security. The team reportedly does not want...

Burning question: will the Patriots have to franchise Wes Welker?

Since the Patriots acquired Wes Welker in a trade from the Miami Dolphins, he has been nothing short of outstanding. Of Welker's 5 seasons in New England, he has posted over 1,100 yards receiving in four of them, and recovered from last year's injury-hampered season to lead the NFL in receptions. While Welker's production will be criticized as being a product of the...

Saved by the turf. A look back at Wes Welker's GIANT drop in Super Bowl XLVI.

Sure-handed Patriots' wide receiver Wes Welker dropped albeit a difficult ball, without question, was the turning point of Super Bowl XLVI.  With the Patriots up 17 to 15 and with exactly 4 minutes left in the contest, Welker could not corral Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's throw.  If we look back at this crucial play, on the surface,  Brady did not make an accurate pass...

Wes Welker tweets that he just finished shooting a commercial for Depend (whaa?)

Working under the assumption that this is real, legitimate tweet from the New England Patriots wide receiver and not the outcome of some wisenheimer hacking Wes Welker’s Twitter account, or, even worse, an inappropriate joke offered up by Welker, that has to be one of the oddest tweets I have ever read. But hey, it’s [...]

Game of Tag? Wes Welker, Patriots would rather avoid it

New reports coming out this weekend have the New England Patriots set on using the franchise tag on WR Wes Welker if both sides cannot reach a deal before March 5th. Not really breaking news, so let’s just call it an update. The original thought had the Patriots letting Welker test free agency waters to see what the value would be for the slot receiver, and then going from there...
