The football Gods giveth and the football Gods taketh away. New England Patriots running back, Shane Vereen, who had a breakout game against the Buffalo Bills, is now down and out while New England Patriots tight end, Zach Sudfeld, caught more injuries than passes on Sunday.Greg Rosenthal of NFL.com reports that Vereen dislocated a bone in his wrist on his first play from scrimmage Sunday afternoon. Vereen played the whole game with the busted carpus and had a stellar performance, rushing for 101 yards and catching seven passes for 58 yards.Scheduled to have surgery on Monday, Vereen is expected to miss a couple of weeks. Vereen replaced RB, Stevan Ridley, who caught a case of the fumbles. The loss of Vereen is a big blow to a Patriots’ offense that is struggling to find its way. Not only is Vereen an exceptional running back, he also excels in the passing game. Big things were expected of Vereen this season and we saw a glimpse of what he can do against Buffalo. In addition, TE Zach Sudfeld apparently hurt his hamstring Sunday afternoon and his status for Thursday’s game against the New York Jets is uncertain.RBs Ridley, LeGarrette Blount, and Brandon Bolden will need to up their games if the Patriots’ offense wants to get out of neutral. Easier typed than done, Ridley has slippery feet and fingers, Bolden was not even in the Buffalo game plan and Blount looked like he had a piano on his back when he carried the ball. Furthermore, if Sudfeld is ailing (not as if he did much on Sunday anyway) will TE Rob Gronkowski make an appearance sooner rather than later? Only the football Gods know the answer to that. Somewhere, in the dark, dank corridors of 1 MetLife Stadium Dr, East Rutherford, NJ, Rex Ryan is smiling.
