While it wasn’t surprising to see Broncos QB Peyton Manning rubbing elbows at the Celebration of Caring Gala for the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, seeing that the hospital bears his name and all, it was a bit of a pleasant shock to see Manning take the stage alongside country singer Luke Bryan for some impromptu karaoke, as the two belted out the Johnny Cash classic Folsom Prison Blues.
I’ll let the questionable singing skills slide, because Peyton commands the stage much the same way he commands the pocket when he’s on the football field. But will someone explain what is going on with Manning’s tie? I understand loosening the knot for comfort reasons, especially after a long night of shaking hands, monotonous small talk, and being charming and engaging, but if that’s the reason, shouldn’t he have undone a button or two on his shirt? That fashion statement is as awkward as Manning’s attempt at dancing, which involved some slight swaying and continually putting his free hand in his pants pocket.
At least he’s got decent taste in music.
