Will Plaxico play for the Bears this year? Definitely, if it were up to Burress.Photo Credit: Creative CommonsPlaxico Burress has to be one of the stranger mysteries of the NFL this year. Maybe it’s his age, or maybe there is a character issue not being publicized, but it seemed that he showed enough last season with the Jets for an NFL team to at least take a flyer on him. However, that was not the case, and Burress remains on his couch as each Sunday passes. Reports now seem to indicate the free agent wide receiver is attempting to capitalize on the unfortunate injury to Bears impressive rookie Alshon Jeffrey, and has made his desire to play in Chicago public.Burress, in a phone interview with ESPN Chicago, said it would be an honor to play in Chicago, and their talented squad:“For me to get to a football town like Chicago and play with a group of guys like (Matt) Forte, Brian (Urlacher), (Brandon Marshall) and Jay (Cutler) would be an honor,” Burress said by phone on Tuesday. “I just have to get the green light.”Burress went on to say he is only looking for one thing: a chance to show what he can do:“All it will take is a coach or GM to believe in me. I just need one. I think teams would be very happy with what I bring to the locker room and the field.”I tend to agree with Plax’s take. As mentioned earlier, it did seem like he showed enough with the Jets last season to at least be on somebody’s radar, and get a sniff in training camp. Particularly, the fit in Chicago with Jeffrey out, who brings a lot of similar things that Burress brings to the football field, could be one that meshes well for both parties involved. Maybe Plax needs to take a trick out of fellow free-agent Terrell Owens’ book, and take to twitter instead.By: Frank Santos- Sports-Kings Assistant Site ManagerThe post Plaxico Burress wants to join the Bears? appeared first on DOWN & DISTANCE.

Bears play prank on rookie McClellin with fake tab

It's not cheap feeding hungry Bears. Chicago's Shea McClellin learned that when he was handed a dinner tab for more than $38,000. Good thing for him, it was only a joke. The Bears decided to play a prank Tuesday night at Mastro's Steakhouse in Chicago when they handed their first-round draft pick and practice squad defensive end Aston Whiteside a bill for $38,091.91...

Bears play prank on rookie McClellin

Chicago Bears first-round pick Shea McClellin became the victim of a prank Tuesday night when defensive end Israel Idonije handed the rookie a $38,091.91 dinner bill. Luckily for him, it was a joke. "We all went out for dinner, rookie night, and we had the restaurant bring by a big bill just to shock (practice squad defensive end) Aston (Whiteside) and Shea," Idonije...

Police: Bears fan gets throat slashed in Fla. bar

Authorities say a Chicago Bears fan who came to Jacksonville for the Bears-Jaguars football game had his throat slashed inside a bar. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says 42-year-old William C. ''Chris'' Pettry died early Sunday inside Fionn MacCool's, an Irish-themed restaurant at The Jacksonville Landing. Twenty-seven-year-old Matthew Hinson is being...

Turning takeaways into TDs is part of Bears' philosophy

During the Chicago Bears' three-game winning streak, the defense has allowed just two touchdowns. But that's not even half the story of what has become one of the NFL's most dominating units. During those same three games, the defense has scored five touchdowns, just one fewer than the Chicago offense has produced in that span. Taking the ball away and then taking...

Bears linebacker Nick Roach steps up in pass coverage

Bears linebacker Nick Roach is being overshadowed by Lance Briggs two touchdowns off of two interceptions, but he deserves major props for his own pass coverage. Againsts the Jacksonville Jaguars Roach was given the task of covering the big strong and athletic TE Marcedes Lewis in man coverage. Roach excelled in this role against a player that far outmatches him in terms of athleticism...

Despite earlier reports to the contrary, GM Phil Emery says the team is not currently discussing a contract extension with head coach Lovie Smith.

Chicago Bears 2013 Offseason Game Plan

It’s never too soon to think about how the Bears can improve for next season. I have some suggestions for GM Phil Emery.Spirits are high in Chicago. The Bears moved to 4-1 with a dominating 41-3 victory in Jacksonville over the weekend. As an aside, I’d like to point out that I predicted the Bears would be sitting at this exact record heading into their bye week (you can find...

Bears first quarter grades: offense

While Jay Cutler and Chicago’s offense have been inconsistent through four games, the group has shown flashes of potential.

Bears' defense keeps racking up points

How's this for an oddity? Charles Tillman and Lance Briggs have more touchdown catches than Calvin Johnson and as many as Larry Fitzgerald and Reggie Wayne. Well, sort of. Tillman and Briggs actually have two interception returns for touchdowns, and the Chicago Bears' defense has been racking up points of late at a rate that would make any high-powered offense envious...

Post-game quotes from Chicago Bears players and coaches following the team's 41-3 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Plaxico Burress is the latest unemployed receiver letting a NFL team know he’s interested

Veteran receivers that still think they can play in the NFL are taking their unemployment in their own hands these days. On Monday, Terrell Owens announced to the Jets (and his Twitter followers) that he was “ready, willing, & able!” Jets coach Rex Ryan considered it for a second, before someone in the organization stressed that they were not interested. And now, another...
