Found April 05, 2013 on One Jet At A Time:
Curtis_martin_44b4
Finally it's April! As we get ready for the NFL Draft later this month, let’s look at a former Jet great that the team did not actually draft. He was drafted by our hated rivals, the New England Patriots! Curtis Martin attended the University of Pittsburgh and was drafted in the Third Round of the 1995 NFL Draft. He played three seasons for the Patriots, being named to two Pro Bowls teams. After helping them make the playoffs in 1997, where they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Wild Card game, he chose to enter the free agency market.  Quickly, our New York Jets touched base with Curtis’s agent and set up a contract that would be very difficult for the Patriots to match. This opened the door for Curtis to join the Jets and his former coach, Bill Parcells. In his first seven seasons with the Jets, Martin missed only one game and was selected to the Pro Bowl three times.  In 1998, Curtis gained 182 total yards and scored two touchdowns against the Jacksonville Jagua...

New England Patriots Tight End Aaron Hernandez in Trouble?

The Gronk is not the only show in town for the Patriots. In fact, I would go as far as to say that he owes a lot of his success to the other--quieter--tight end on the Patriots squad, Aaron Hernandez. Both are top notch, No. 1 options for a passing game. When they are actually healthy and on the field at the same time matching up with them defensively is challenging to say the least...

Depleted Patriots receiving corps could take another hit, free agent Julian Edelman visiting New York Giants

New England Patriots free agent receiver Julian Edelman is visiting with the New York Giants, who are looking to replace recently departed Domenik Hixon. The former college quarterback turned receiver was Wes Welker’s primary back up and had risen to the starting line up in 2012 until injuries derailed him. The Giants are looking for a flexible receiver who can return punt and...

Patriots rumors: New England not interested in Terrell Owens

Rumors of potential New England Patriots’ interest in free agent Terrell Owens began swirling when the wide receiver was seen catching passes from quarterback Tom Brady while they worked out together at the University of Southern California. However, speculation was quickly squashed, as Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald reported yesterday that the Patriots do not have interest in...

Report: Julian Edelman Visits Giants Thursday, With Patriots Unclear on Interest in Bringing Him Back

Julian Edelman was all but auditioning for Wes Welker‘s role with the Patriots when last season began. But, with Welker gone to the Broncos, New England doesn’t appear too eager to bring Edelman back, even with the team short on receivers. Now, Edelman, a free agent, is visiting the Giants, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Edelman has been a solid fill-in for the Patriots since being...

2005 AFC Divisional playoff New England Patriots at Denver...

2005 AFC Divisional playoff New England Patriots at Denver Broncos complete game (by dipsomaniac1976) A little Friday Patriots viewing if you’re feeling up for the original Tom Brady/Bill Belichick playoff loss. In many ways I think this game was one of the initial sparks for this blog. It was after this loss that I realized Brady/Belichick only had a finite number of shots at...

Tom Brady Work Out With Terrell Owens At USC

My first three thoughts on the Patriots preseason schedule

1. Twice in one year: The Patriots will host the Buccaneers in the second preseason game, but they will also host them later on in the regular season. This is the first time the Patriots have played a team (other than the Giants) in both the preseason and regular season since the Saints in 2005. New England ended up winning that game against the Saints in Foxborough 24-17. However...

Giants rumors: Julian Edelman to visit New York

New England Patriots free agent wide receiver Julian Edelman visited New Jersey yesterday and will meet with the New York Giants today, according to Mike Garafolo of USA Today. Blidi Wreh-Wilson Would Give Patriots Long, Athletic Corner Needed to Improve Secondary

When the Patriots drafted Ras-I Dowling at the beginning of the second round two years ago, they knew they were getting a tall, long and athletic corner who could help their defense. What they didn’t know was that he would only be healthy enough to play nine games in his first two seasons. So, with Dowling’s health still uncertain going forward, the Patriots may be tempted to...
