PLAYERS: D.J. Hayden
TEAMS: Oakland Raiders
Yesterday, Oakland Raiders coach Dennis Allen updated reporters on the status of several injured players, including cornerback D.J. Hayden. Allen said that Hayden – who recently underwent surgery to remove scar tissue from his abdominal region – is expected to rejoin the team and be ready to go by the time training camp rolls around, according to Steve Corkran of The Contra Costa Times. “Everything went fine,” Allen said. “Everything was kind of as we had hoped and anticipated. Hey, listen, it’s a little bit of uncharted waters, but we still feel comfortable that he’ll be back and ready to go in camp. We still have seven weeks before we start training camp. It’s 51 days from now until we start training camp. We feel confident he’ll be back and be ready to go.” Prior to undergoing the operation, Hayden had been complaining of stomach pain. After evaluation, the procedure was required, and it will sideline him through the remainder of the team’s OTAs. Hayden has returned to the practice field, but the first-round draft pick is only able to watch the sessions from the sidelines. Follow @TheNFLInjuryRpt Looking for fantasy football advice?

Raiders QB Matt Flynn: ‘Everybody has a different leadership style’

Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt Flynn learned a week ago he was the starting signal caller going forward and with great power comes responsibility. The offense is heading in a new direction and Flynn has to be the one who guides the ship. He has had some great examples in Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay and Russell Wilson in Seattle. With Rodgers he learned what it takes to win...

Oakland Raiders Rebuilding, Looking To Make Big Strides in 2013

The Oakland Raiders have always been a proud franchise with die-hard, dedicated fans. In the past few years, however, they haven’t exactly lived up to their motto “commitment to excellence.” They haven’t made the playoffs since the 2002-2003 season where they went 11-5 and eventually lost the in Super Bowl to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the ten seasons since, the Raiders...

Raiders hope Roach is the man in the middle

Nick Roach lined up at middle linebacker, barked out a coverage adjustment, then quickly shifted behind the left side of the defensive line before bursting through to pressure Oakland rookie quarterback Tyler Wilson. After three years of getting little production out of the position, the Raiders think they've found a remedy in the 27-year-old veteran defender. Almost as impressive...

Oakland Raiders: Marcel Reece Jack-Of-All-Trades

Marcel Reece Twitter Page (@CelReece45) Pro Bowl fullback Marcel Reece will be the Oakland Raiders‘ most important offensive player in the 2013 season. While it might not look like a good omen for any NFL offense that a fullback is their best player, Reece has that much talent. There is no question that running back Darren McFadden is by far the most talented player on...

Colin Kaepernick came close to being the Raiders golden child

Former Oakland Raiders coach Hue Jackson played the game What If with Sports Illustrated’s Peter King. Jackson spoke with King about the 2011 NFL draft in which the San Francisco 49ers traded up to pick  quarterback Colin Kaepernick. “I think about it all the time, believe me,” Jackson told King on Sunday.”No question in my mind we wanted it to happen, and no question I...

Chris Kluwe declines White House invitation in favor of Oakland Raiders camp

Oakland Raiders punter Chris Kluwe saw his time with the Minnesota Vikings end amid a bit of controversy earlier this offseason. Simply put, there are a number of people who feel Kluwe would still be a Viking if he was not so outspoken when it comes to equal rights. Last week, Kluwe made a loud [...]

Football Nation Preview: The 2013 Oakland Raiders

2012 Record: 4-122012 DownfallLack of Defensive PressureThe 25 sacks mustered by the Raiders were the second lowest total in the NFL in 2012, ahead of only Jacksonville's wretched 20. It's probably not a good sign when Richard Seymour misses eight games, and finds himself in a three-way tie for third place with 3.0 sacks. (Lamarr Houston led the club with 4.5).The Raiders...

Reggie McKenzie’s job on line in 2013?

Peter King of made it clear in his weekly Monday Morning Column that he believes Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie is on the hot seat for the upcoming season. Let’s, for a second, gloss over the fact that the Raiders’ weekend firing of director of media relations Zak Gilbert is the kind of knee-jerk Steinbrennerian move that Mark Davis’ father, Al, might have made...

Raiders Take a Page from Seattle Seahawks Playbook by Acquiring Matt Flynn

In Hollywood timing is everything. If a movie is Oscar worthy, the release date should be late in the year so it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle and the Academy doesn’t forget about it. The same can be said for the NFL.  If you’re a backup quarterback heading into free agency, do yourself a favor and break franchise records in passing yards and touchdowns during the last...
