Al Davis wasn't the only person interested in Terrelle Pryor during the 2011 supplemental draft. Pryor, who grew up 30 miles from Pittsburgh in Jeannette, Pa., told the Steelers media in a conference call that he had a visit with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin offered to take Pryor but also relayed a story that gave the Ohio State quarterback pause. When Tomlin was an assistant coach with Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers drafted local product Shaun King. "He ended up being in the same hometown," Pryor said. "It was just hard for him; he ended up getting cut because of all the distractions. I had to say no because at a young age, I didn't want to be near home and have distractions around me." In a conference call with Bay Area media, Tomlin said of Pryor: "I probably met T.P. about a month after I got here. He was probably 16 or 17 years old. He's an awesome man, and it's been fun to kind of watch him grow up from afar." Davis used a third-round pick in what turned out to be his last draft selection on Pryor, meaning the Steelers would have had to expend a first- or second-round pick to get him. Teams that select a player in the supplemental draft forfeit a draft pick in the same round in the ensuing regular draft.
