Veteran wide receiver Randy Moss will be making his return to Minnesota for the first time since his second stint with the Minnesota Vikings as the San Francisco 49ers will play the Vikings tomorrow at 12 CT, at Mall of America Field at the Hubert H. Humphrey Dome.

Moss began his career as a Viking as he was drafted by them in 1998.  Moss has been a controversial receiver for his entire career, but it is hard not to love him.  When he was in his prime, he was one of the greatest deep threats in the game.  Moss ranks second on the Vikings' all-time list in receiving yards (9,316), receptions (587) and touchdowns (92).  Number one, of course, is Cris Carter, the greatest Vikings' receiver of all-time.

Moss, however, will not be getting all the attention due to the fact that it is a team run by quarterback Alex Smith, running back Frank Gore, and tight end Vernon Davis.  Smith, so far this season, has done a great job on not just managing games, but winning games.  He has thrown four touchdowns and no interceptions in two games this year, owns a 115.9 passer rating and a 81.9 quarterback rating.  Gore has been rushing effectively as he has averaged 6.1 yards per carry and has two rushing touchdowns of his own.  Davis is probably the most athletic tight end in the NFL and will give the Vikings secondary fits all day.

If that isn't scary enough, the 9ers defense is quite possibly the best in the NFL.  For the Vikings to be effective, quarterback Christian Ponder is going to need to pass with great precision.  He will need to make minimal mistakes as the 9ers defense last year had a league leading 38 takeaways.

Another person who will need to step up is Adrian Peterson as he faces a 9ers defense that has not allowed a rushing touchdown this year and only 127 yards total in two games.  Peterson will need to break through this defense to give Ponder a break.  Another big thing will be the receiving corps of the Vikings.  So far, it has looked like Percy Harvin has been the only one to put on his big boy pants and has stepped up.  The rest of these guys, including Michael Jenkins, Devin Aromashodu, and Kyle Rudolph, need to start getting open, and when they are, catching the ball.

There is no sugar coating it, the Vikings are going to struggle in this game.  Unless the Vikings' defense made a mid-week transformation, they are going to get hit hard by this offense.  Also, unless Ponder and Peterson play the games of their lives, they will not break through this defense.  Expect the 9ers to win this one in relatively easy fashion.  But hey, stranger things have happened.
