The Washington Redskins did what they had to do with a dominant running game and beat the Rams 17-10. The Redskins were extremely rough a few times with a couple hits on defenseless Ram players on the return, but luckily for them it was only 15 yards and no fines (yet).  They really should consider fair catch signals.  No excuses though for the way they hit.  The defense did get 6 sacks on Sam Bradford:  1 to Rookie Ryan Kerrigan, 1.5 to Stephen Bowen, 2.5 to Brian Orakpo and 1 to Adam Carriker.  It would have been 7 sacks if it wasn’t for a penalty.  The biggest help for the Redskins offense was the return of RB Ryan Torain who suffered a broken hand in training camp and chalked up 135 yards a 1 TD. The Rams recorded 9 penalties for 65 yards, but the Redskins had 10 for 95 yards. The Redskins score in the 1st quarter with a Grossman pass to Santana Moss to lead 7-0.  They score again in the 2nd quarter with a rushing TD by Ryan Torain.  The Rams did get within easy scoring opportun...

Bradford, Rams frustraded after another loss

ST. LOUIS Sam Bradford hunched in a blue folding chair in front of his locker still dressed in full uniform, his left pant leg stained with blood. He stared forward. He untied his left shoe. He leaned back again. He didn't move. The second-year St. Louis Rams quarterback sat on the chair as teammates dressed around him mostly in silence. He didn't say a word. He had...

Redskins Escape With Win Over Hapless Rams

Rams QB Sam Bradford hit as he passes against The Redskins I never thought that I would refer to the 2011 Rams as “hapless.”  But four games into the season they have more than earned that label with an 0-4 start to the season and nothing in sight to suggest otherwise.  The Rams lost to the Redskins 17-10 on Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.  Washington, no...

Torain makes most of opportunity as feature back;Rumbles for 135 yards, TD

ST. LOUIS | Ryan Torain finally heard the words he had been longing for all season long. The Washington Redskins running back got the news from position coach Bobby Turner midway through the second quarter Sunday. "He came over to me and said, 'Get warm, get ready, you're going in,' " Torain recalled. The 6-foot-1, 218-pounder took it from there. Torain...

Redskins-Rams Redux

AP Image Run Ryan, run. As Redskins fans got a glimpse of last year, running back Ryan Torain has the ability to put the team on his back and flat-out produce.  He finished the day with 19 rushes for 135 yards, and a 7.1 yards per carry average.  This was his fourth career 100-yard game, and the second-highest production of his career. He was also your runaway (pun intended) winner...

Ryan Kerrigan, Ryan Torain up for player of the week honors

Washington Redskins rookie linebacker Ryan Kerrigan again is a nominee for the Pepsi NFL rookie of the week, following his strong outing against the St. Louis Rams. Meanwhile, running back Ryan Torain is a candidate for the FedEx Ground player of the week. Kerrigan, who was nominated for the award in Week 1 and last week took home defensive rookie of the month honors, recorded six...

Redskins Lead the Rams 14-0 at Half

The Washington Redskins look to bounce back on the round against the St. Louis Rams. After two quarters of football, they are well on their way. In the first half, The Redskins defense shut down the Rams' young quarterback.  Sam Bradford completed 10 of his 18 pass attempts for 73 yards.  The Skins allowed the St. Louis offense to convert only 1 of 8 first downs in the first...

By The Numbers: Rams

Here is a look at some of the interesting and relevant numbers from the Redskins 17-10 victory over the St. Louis Rams: 196 - Yards on the ground for the Washington Redskins (4.9 yard average). The Rams came into the game allowing a league-worst 175 yards per game, and a 4.9 yard average, so the game pretty much bore out the Rams season history. 172 - Yards total for the St. Louis...

Third Quarter Thoughts

The Rams have one of the best in-stadium promotions that I’ve ever seen, where a fan has 30 seconds to unravel an entire roll of streamer paper in 30 seconds.  This also happens to be one of my cat’s favorite games. Even with an assist by the clock operator, the selected Rams fan could not unravel the streamer in time, although she won something anyway. And that’s your Edward...
