Andy Reid made his return to Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday night. This time, it was under unusual circumstances. For 14 years, Andy Reid was the head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. He led them to five NFC title games and one Superbowl. He is one of the most beloved sports figures in Philadelphia sports history. On Thursday, Reid walked onto the field with one purpose. An intention that 14 years ago, Reid probably never thought he would have. This was to beat the Philadelphia Eagles. On a night where emotions were flowing, due to the retiring of the jersey number of all-time great Eagles quarterback Donavon McNabb, Andy Reid stepped on the field decked out in all red clothing, as the head coach of the 2-0 Kansas City Chiefs. Although Reid was given a standing ovation upon his return to the field on Thursday night, in all reality, to Eagles’ fans Reid is no longer a teddy bear, but an over grown ape. His moustache is no longer signature, but verging on creepy, and he is no longer an ally, but an enemy. Reunited Michael Vick had a relationship with Andy Reid that was unlike any other relationship in sports between a head coach and his player. Andy Reid was a father figure to Michael Vick, and still is. After spending more than a year in prison, Reid reached out to Vick and brought him back into the game of football, providing him with reliability, guidance and a family in the Eagles organization. Without the helping hand of Andy Reid, the path of life that Michael Vick may have gone down is one that most likely would not have ended happily. Although it can be assumed that Vick wanted nothing more than to beat his “dad”, just like any son aspires so desperately to do, he did not, just like any son never can. But during a post game, on the field interview between Sal Paolantonio and the victorious Andy Reid, Vick came shoving through a crowd of reporters to embrace Reid with his arms wide open, for a monstrous, emotion filled hug, just like any father and son competition should conclude. Is Kelly Offense Transitioning to NFL? Prior to their week 3 loss, everything was going according to plan for the Eagles. The college style offense led by Chip Kelly seemed to be the answer to the Eagles offensive issues last year and the players seemed to be playing hard for their head coach, something that was not prevalent during Andy Reid’s final year. However, after a tough loss in week 2 to the C Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports hargers, followed by the loss to the Chiefs, the Eagles are back to disappointing fans with their inconsistency offensively, and lack of physical play defensively. Doubt is creeping in. Game Notes Michael Vick went just 13-30 for 201 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. It was not a good performance from Vick, who was under constant pressure throughout the game, getting sacked six times. The Chiefs also forced five turnovers, as well as a hit that sent Vick to the sidelines with a noticeable limp. LeSean McCoy continues to have a statistically outstanding season as he rushed for 158 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown, but the Eagles can only run the ball so many times when the defense is not getting stops. Jamaal Charles racked up 172 total yards and a touchdown, as he helped the Chiefs add to their win total and put them at a 3-0 start for the season. Experience Trumps All Although Vick and the Eagles were sent to the locker room with a bitter taste in their mouths, Andy Reid on the other hand, reminded the world why for the past 14 years, the Eagles were consistently playing in January. The Eagles are in desperate need of a win. Fortunately, the entire NFC East division is struggling. The Eagles travel to the mile high city to take on another AFC West foe in the Denver Broncos in week 4.
