Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the relationship between Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman and HC Greg Schiano is “beyond repair” and Freeman is “likely” to request a trade out of Tampa Bay. Ian Rapoport also reported today that there’s ”some real tension” and a “growing disconnect” between the two. This all stems from Schiano publicly revealing Freeman was absent for a team photo, as well as an overall lack of trust. La Canfora goes even further and cites several executives around the league who believe Schiano’s refusal to publicly endorse Freeman is an attempt to undermine GM Mark Dominik. According to La Canfora, “many around the league” believe Schiano would like to have full control of the team’s roster moving forward. La Canfora lists the Raiders, Titans and Vikings as teams who could have interest in Freeman. Freeman, 25, is in the final year of his rookie contract and there’s almost no chance of him returning to Tampa Bay next season. The Buccaneers have already drafted his successor in Mike Glennon and it’s clear that the head coach is not a fan of his abilities.
