According to the New York Daily News, the Giants and wide receiver Victor Cruz are getting closer to striking a long-term extension now that Cruz has lowered his demands.
As of Tuesday night, one source familiar with the negotiations insisted “nothing is imminent.”
But that could change at any moment, the source said, because progress between the two sides has definitely been made.
The catalyst for the change apparently came in March when Cruz fired his agent, Malik Shareef, and signed on with Tom Condon’s Creative Artists Agency. Cruz, who was once seeking a contract worth $10 million-$11 million per season, has apparently lowered his demands to a payday much closer to what the Giants are offering. That offer, sources have told the Daily News, is worth nearly $8 million per year.
Sources on both sides have been optimistic for weeks that a deal will be struck sooner than later — probably in time for the Giants’ mandatory, full-team minicamp that begins on June 11, and possibly even in time for Cruz to return for some of the Giants’ organized team activity (OTA) sessions that begin next week.
Cruz ultimately had no other choice but to lower his demands. The Giants weren’t going to give in if he held out and the fact of the matter is that he would have likely held out as long as he could and then he would have been forced to show up by week 10 of the regular season because if he doesn’t he can’t become an unrestricted free agent after this season. Another thing is that I’m sure Cruz doesn’t want to play out this season under a restricted free agent and risk suffering a serious injury.
At the end of the day, Cruz has made the right move to lower his demands, since he’s going to continue to make a lot of money off the field, because of how marketable he is with his image personality.

It was reported earlier this offseason that the New York Giants don’t look at Victor Cruz as more than a slot receiver. This would lead us to believe they’re not willing to pay him more than $6 million per season, since that’s the go rating for a slot receiver after seeing what Wes Welker got this offseason from the Broncos. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the...

Two years ago, Victor Cruz was hoping to make the New York Giants roster. He put in extra work, getting to know Eli Manning a little better by showing up to Eli’s self-organized passing camp due to the lockout. Now, Cruz is battling the Giants for a new contract, and it appears they are finally almost there according to the latest report from Lenn Robbins of the NY Post: A source...
New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin recently admitted that the Victor Cruz contract talks were starting to become a distraction. As Cruz has been mostly silent during this offseason, at least regarding the twigs and berries of his wishes and demands, the speculative media monster had previously suggested that Cruz was looking for a contract that would pay him more than $10 million...

Dwight Freeney’s father Hugh was on SiriusXM NFL Radio and said his son would love to play for the New York Giants, but “they’re broke.”
Well the Giants could afford to pay Freeney, but he would have to accept a contract that’s worth the veteran minimum and I don’t think he’s going to do that.
If the Giants were going to sign Freeney, they should have just kept Osi...
