Like all other teams, the Jets spent Saturday purging its roster to get down to the league-mandated 53-man limit, cutting 22 players in the process.

And where was Rex Ryan during all this? Oh, about 700 miles to the south.

Twitter user @Will_Roebuck tweeted that he had spoken to the Jets' embattled coach on a flight to Clemson, S.C., presumably for Clemson University's football game against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Sure enough, he turned up proof of Ryan in all his Tigers glory.

The photo eventually found its way to the national media types, who were, suffice it to say, surprised at where Ryan chose to spend the day.

As New York Daily News columnist Manish Mehta points out, Ryan's son is a walk-on at Clemson, so he decided to "skip" Gang Green's cut-down process and didn't address those who were issued pink slips.

It's certainly a curious move on Ryan's part, one the Jets wouldn't confirm. Maybe he really was there to support his son. Or maybe he's doing his due diligence and lining up future job prospects.

At least he wasn't chasing animals again.
