Although it was just a preseason game, when number one versus number two face off, it always seems to grab everyone’s attention.

Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III faced off against each other and did not disappoint the fans at FedEx field as Griffin and the Washington Redskins got the best of Luck and the Indianapolis Colts 30-17 on Saturday night. Both young quarterback looked very impressive and poised, both throwing touchdowns and no turnovers while playing a little over half the game before being taken out the game.

As I sat at FedEx field to watch the Redskins and Colts play, I watched the Redskins faithful stand to their feet and applaud as Griffin, the guy that was brought to the Redskins to turn around a franchise that finished at the bottom of the NFC East, ran out onto FedEx field for the first time. Although this scene was new to him, he was still his same old efficient self, completing 11 of 17 passes for 74 yards and a four yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Santana Moss, capping off a twelve play 80 yard drive in the second quarter.

Andrew Luck look just as impressive for the Colts as he finished the game going 14 of 23 for 151 yards and beautiful 31 yard touchdown toss to wide receiver T.Y. Hilton.  The thing that made both Luck and Griffin most impressive was the fact that they seem to keep their composure so well under so much pressure from the opposing defenses. Griffin seemed to side step and run away from the Colts defense avoiding being sacked while Luck didn’t fare so well being sacked a couple of times but still hung in there and looked as good as advertised.

Another Redskins rookie running back Alfred Morris decided he would shine as well in his first home game as well rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. He earned a start at running back this game and made the most of it while running backs Evan Royster and Roy Helu Jr. tended to injuries that kept them out of the game. Running back Tim Hightower also made his return to the field after suffering a torn ACL last season but only received five carries in the game.

Speaking of injuries, the Colts suffered quite a few throughout tonight’s game but not to anyone significant while promising nose tackle Chris Baker went down for a little while but returned to the game later on. Another person that may have suffered was backup quarterback Rex Grossman, who was heavily booed as he entered the game in the third quarter for Griffin. He responded well to the negative applause completing all eight of his passes with two of them going for touchdowns late in the game.
