Yesterday the Tennessee Titans released quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. As he left, the team picked up former Buffalo Bills starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Reports say that he will compete with Jake Locker for the starting position. Fitzpatrick has an overall record of 20-33 and has been inconsistent for Buffalo. During his time playing for the Bills, Fitzpatrick threw for 11,654 yards, 80 touchdowns, and 64 interceptions. He will try to have better results in Tennessee as he competes for the starting role. Just as it did not take too long for Fitzpatrick to find a new home the same is true for Matt Hasselback. He signed a deal with the Indianapolis Colts. Hasselbeck who is 37 years old looks to be the backup to Andrew Luck. Andrew will be able to learn from Hasselbeck just as Matt was Jack Locker’s mentor in Tennessee. Just like other players around the league Matt was let go due to the fact he was going to have cost the Titans $7.5 million in the team salary cap. Matt played for two years with the Titans. This will be Matt’s fourth NFL team he has played for. Most of his time was with the Seattle Seahawks, but he did start out on the Green Bay Packers. Do you remember the hype that surrounded where the next location for Revis Island would be? Well that buzz has died down a lot. Now there are some rumors that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would want to work a deal with the New York Jets. Tampa Bay’s general manager Mark Dominik told reporters that the team is interested in making a deal with the Jets for Darrelle Revis. The Bucs are not ruling out using the 13th overall pick in this year’s draft as part of the deal. “If we think it’s in the best interest of the team, we will do something, if that’s a player that everybody is speculating or maybe it’s a player at a position that nobody has thought about. But certainly, these meetings are very healthy for those kinds of discussions to see if there is a way to get this team better and does that include players or draft picks or a combination? That’s what we’ll look at.” Dominik told reporters. One thing that could stop the deal is Revis’ high contract demands. Revis is in his final year with the Jets and will make $6 million. Plus he got $1 million in a roster bonus this past Saturday. That sounds like a manageable contract price, but he wants to make around $16 million a year. That is where teams might not want to make the move for Revis. Other teams like the 49ers and Falcons have passed on a deal with the Jets because of the hefty price tag.
