Washington Redskins rookie linebacker Ryan Kerrigan again is a nominee for the Pepsi NFL rookie of the week, following his strong outing against the St. Louis Rams. Meanwhile, running back Ryan Torain is a candidate for the FedEx Ground player of the week.
Kerrigan, who was nominated for the award in Week 1 and last week took home defensive rookie of the month honors, recorded six tackles, a sack and a forced fumble against the Rams Sunday.

Torain makes most of opportunity as feature back;Rumbles for 135 yards, TD
ST. LOUIS | Ryan Torain finally heard the words he had been longing for all season long.
The Washington Redskins running back got the news from position coach Bobby Turner midway through the second quarter Sunday.
"He came over to me and said, 'Get warm, get ready, you're going in,' " Torain recalled.
The 6-foot-1, 218-pounder took it from there.

Redskins-Rams Redux

Run Ryan, run.
As Redskins fans got a glimpse of last year, running back Ryan Torain has the ability to put the team on his back and flat-out produce. He finished the day with 19 rushes for 135 yards, and a 7.1 yards per carry average. This was his fourth career 100-yard game, and the second-highest production of his career.
He was also your runaway (pun intended) winner...
Brian Orakpo starts Ryan Kerrigan’s rookie of the year campaign
You remember the last time the Redskins had the NFL’s offensive rookie of the year? Try Mike Thomas, in 1975.
Remember the last time the Skins had the NFL’s defensive rookie of the year? Try never. No, Jim Haslett in 1979 doesn’t count.
This might be the year, though. Peter King, in his weekly SI.com column, wrote on Monday that “through the first quarter of the season, the...

Coach pleased with solid pass rush;Kerrigan, Orakpo delivering pressure
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan didn't exactly break into a full-fledged grin when quarterback Sam Bradford picked himself up off the turf for the seventh time in Washington's 17-10 win at St. Louis on Sunday. But it's exactly the kind of performance he's been waiting for.
"Defensively, I think we played our best football game since I've been here," Shanahan...

Redskins Go Into Bye Week 3-1 with Win Against Winless Rams
The Washington Redskins did what they had to do with a dominant running game and beat the Rams 17-10. The Redskins were extremely rough a few times with a couple hits on defenseless Ram players on the return, but luckily for them it was only 15 yards and no fines (yet). They really should consider fair catch signals. No excuses though for the way they hit. The defense did get...
Third Quarter Thoughts
The Rams have one of the best in-stadium promotions that I’ve ever seen, where a fan has 30 seconds to unravel an entire roll of streamer paper in 30 seconds. This also happens to be one of my cat’s favorite games.
Even with an assist by the clock operator, the selected Rams fan could not unravel the streamer in time, although she won something anyway. And that’s your Edward...
