The New Orleans Saints have placed linebacker Victor Butler, safety Roman Harper and cornerback Patrick Robinson on the physically unable to perform list, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Rapoport indicated that it's not surprising to see Butler hit the PUP list. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in June, and there's a chance he could miss the entire 2013 season as a result. It's not clear at this point what's hobbling Harper, who's slated to be one of the team's starting safeties. He signed a contract extension with New Orleans in May after totaling two interceptions over 16 starts last season. Robinson's placement on the list isn't extremely surprising either, as his ailment has at least been defined. The cornerback suffered a knee injury in June during minicamp. Like Harper, Robinson made 16 starts last season, intercepting three passes over that span. Follow @TheNFLInjuryRpt Looking for fantasy football advice?

Mickey Loomis says Saints 'have a lot to prove'

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis is looking forward to 2013 after a really tough season last year. Head coach Sean Payton returns and some neccessary changes have been made. Now it's time to forget all about the dismal showing in 2012 and show the league that the Saints still have a solid team and will find success again. “I think...

With Payton back, Saints head to camp with hope

Since Sean Payton returned from his bounty ban in January, the Saints have steered clear of scandal or contract holdouts in a blissfully uneventful offseason. With the focus back on football, optimism abounds in the Big Easy. ''Here we are, really for the first time in four years, where you feel like this is a normal offseason,'' quarterback Drew Brees said recently...

Fantasy Profile: Darren Sproles

2012 Recap:  Sproles carried the ball just 48 times for 244 yards and a TD, but no one is drafting Sproles for his rushing prowess.  We want PPR gold, and  he had another busy season as a receiver, with 75/667/7 on 103 targets.  He did this despite having a broken bone in his hand and missing three games.  Oh, and Sean Payton wasn’t around to ensure that Sproles was ultilized...

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis optimistic about extending Jimmy Graham's contract

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis was relaxed even chipper in his press conference Thursday on the eve of training camp. No surprise there since Loomis has already signed all of the team's 2013 draft picks and won't have to deal with any holdouts when camp starts Friday morning. But looming in the background maybe even the forefront are the expiring contracts...

Payton motivated to do his job better than ever

Sean Payton is back in control of the New Orleans Saints, ready to put the Bounty Scandal behind him and motivated to start a fresh quest for another Super Bowl Championship. When Saints Training Camp opened Thursday, one of Payton's first orders of business was to voice appreciation for the relationship he has with team owner Tom Benson despite the ups and downs of last season...

Saints Nation: Training Camp Position Battle Preview - Cornerbacks

If this secondary is going to show any improvement whatsoever, then the sacred cow of the offseason, Keenan Lewis, will have to live up to the investment. Last year was a dreadful performance from top to bottom beyond words. Besides Lewis and some back end additions at safety, the Saints really haven't done much to solidify the cornerback position in the offseason. Depth is still...

Saints Nation: Training Camp Position Battle Preview - Safety

As training camp opens today, I'm excited to blog about what I view as the deepest and most intriguing tandem position on the roster. The Saints have a lot of veteran and young talent that all deserve to make this team. Traditionally the team has kept four or maybe five safeties. This year, I really think six should be kept. I'm surprised at the team's desire to stockpile...

Saints rookie Terron Armstead enjoys big birthday week

A happy 22nd birthday to Saints rookie left tackle Terron Armstead - who says he's going after the job of protecting Drew Brees' blind side at full speed when training camp opens Thursday. It's a tough task for a rookie - even though Armstead believes he's mature enough to step up. In honor of his birthday - Armstead tweeted (@optimusprime_72) "The birth of...

Vilma excited for upcoming season

Although the bounty scandal is now behind Jonathan Vilma, so are nine punishing NFL seasons. The Saints linebacker and longtime defensive captain appreciates that many will wonder if he's lost a step after 870 tackles since turning pro in 2004, not to mention several knee procedures in the past two years. Vilma responds confidently to the skepticism, saying his rehabilitation...

Sizing up the Saints 'D' heading into training camp

The Saints' defense is shouldering a lot of expectations: when training camp opens later this week, all eyes will be on Rob Ryan's fledgling Black and Gold version of the 3-4 scheme. "When you start from the gutter, the only thing you can do is come up. They were in the gutter last year! They were pretty horrendous. They have nowhere to go but up," says former...
