Seahawks have placed their rookie fifth-round draft pick defensive tackle Jesse
Williams on the season-ending Injured Reserve list, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. Williams was drafted out of the University of Alabama to
provide depth and run-stuffing ability from the defensive tackle position. He
had battled with knee issues throughout the preseason and training camp and was
held out of the Seahawks last preseason game versus the Green Bay Packers.
Unfortunately, Williams’ will have to watch his rookie season from the
should have the depth to promote from within when it comes to replacing
Williams. Seattle drafted defensive tackle Jordan Hill from Penn State in the
third round to help provide push up the middle and also brought in free agent
Tony McDaniel from Miami to compete for playing time as well as the starting
position next to incumbent starter Brandon Mebane. They may be the two most
likely beneficiaries of the extra practice/game reps in the short-term.
to Williams being placed on IR, the Seahawks also cut or terminated the
contracts of eight total players. Among those departing are: WR’s Perez Alford
and Brett Swain, LB’s Kyle Knox and Craig Wilkins, TE’s Jameson Konz and Andrei
Lintz, DT Martin Parker, and LS Kyle Nelson.
