Let’s face it. It’s going to take the Seahawks a minor miracle to beat arguably best team in the AFC. But it’s going to be a little easier if the Hawks win these three matchups.

Tavaris Jackson vs. Ed Reed We always hear about how great Ravens safety Ed Reed is, but not a lot of people know why he’s so great. The number one thing Reed does to harass quarterbacks is read their eyes. Granted, every safety in the NFL does this, but Reed takes it to a whole other level. Once a QB glances one way, Reed will just take off in that direction and pick off the ball, leaving the quarterback stunned. T-Jack is going to have to pull a Peyton Manning and trick the All-Pro safety by looking one way, and then throwing the other way. Easier said than done.

Max Unger vs. Haloti Ngata This is more like David vs. Goliath. Ngata is arguably the best defensive tackle in the league while Unger is just an average center. Unger has to AT LEAST neutralize him for the Seahawks to have any chance to pull off an upset, because if he doesn’t, Ngata is going to eat Marshawn Lynch and Tavaris Jackson for breakfast. I don’t have any smart analysis (as if I’m somehow and expert) on this one. Unger MUST win.

Seahawks vs. Themselves One of the biggest reasons Seattle lost last week at Dallas is penalties. The Seahawks have been penalized 29 times in the previous three games and scored just 28 points. Their 70 penalties through eight games are more than they had in two different 16-game seasons under coach Mike Holmgren. And a lot of them have just been stupid ones like false starts and illegal formations. Let’s stop shooting ourselves in the foot.
